The Fire HDX did away with the HDMI connection. Instead you can either "fling" movies to your television using Second Screen on PlayStation 3, Samsung TVs, and soon on PlayStation 4 OR mirror your screen through Miracast-enabled accessories and TVs.

If you TV has HDMI, it can handle a Miracast dongle (they replace the device you usually would hook into it to watch something). They're not expensive.
HDMI is good, but they're trying to make us buy a box to hook up to it, instead of our tablets. |

You can think of Miracast as sort of a wireless HDMI. If your TV doesn't have a built-in Miracast interface you simply plug a Miracast dongle into the TV's HDMI port.
