I love the newest BBC Holmes. Benedict Cumberbatch is ... yeah!
I also really enjoyed Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes and hope he reprises the role in another movie. Elementary With Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Lui, is fun too. Fact of the matter is, I like the Sherlock Holmes Legend. I'm not sure why it took me so long to read the books. I will probably comb Netflix for the previous TV series versions. |

Cumberbatch? Oh frack.
Holmes meets Smaug. The universe will implode because of sheer awesomeness. |

I have only seen one episode of Sherlock and I thought it was brilliant. Unfortunately it was the final of series 2 (I think). I must try to borrow the DVDs from the library, if I can find the time to watch them!

It's not a copy, however twisted. It is its own show. People have been making versions of Sherlock forever. Elementary is certainly NOT canon. But interesting none the less, and Lucy Liu as Watson is a brilliant idea. I do not try to judge it with anything like what I would expect of, say, Jeremy Brett's portrayal, which was clearly and directly canon. Nor even the UK Sherlock, which while not directly canon is clearly trying to stay as close as modern times makes feasible. I enjoy both shows, and don't feel that they directly compete or compare.

Poll? There is no poll. I'm telling you that the people online and people I know majority of them say Elementary sucks. It's just a CBS crime drama in the gist of it, that uses BBC's success with Sherlock to make some money, but in the end it has nothing to do with Sherlock. It would have worked better as a normal crime drama.
IMDB is full of negative reviews, for one thing, and people joke about watching Sherlock only because Lucy Liu is a hot chick. Yeah lets talk about quality. I am not doubting you two are enjoying it, I'm saying I am not and a lot of people are not. But we are getting awfully ![]() |

The topic stemmed from a comment I made about a book I read, so no, it isn't really "off topic". I'm happy to change the subject, though. -------------------------------------------------- My February, unfortunately, is not starting as well as my January. While it is still early days, I'm feeling aimless and indecisive, reading wise. Thankfully, challenge wise, I'm still ahead of my goals by 4 books. I'm going to try to break out of the duldrums with The Book. This was chosen last month as the "January 2014 Sci-Fi Selection" in a GoodReads Group. I voted for it as well, but it was panned - hard (poor writing & editing)! I was going to skip it altogether, but I think I want to experience for myself. It'll be interesting going into a book not expecting to like it. Hopefully, this will kickstart my month for me. Last edited by Nyssa; 02-06-2014 at 11:04 PM. |

I'm actually doing pretty well on my challenge, and so far I'm keeping my list pretty much up to date. I just finished The Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters and gave it 4* out of 5. With a suspicion that later books in the series will actually improve and move up to 5 stars.

How do I count it if I accidentally rebuy a book I've already got?
I went to some charity shops today without my checklist. All three had a promising looking Agatha Christie, and I bought two. Sadly one of the ones I bought was a duplicate and the one I didn't buy was one I don't have. Luckily there wasn't much money involved. |
