surprisingly cheap, but watch for import duties. If I ordered that for deliivery to UK there would be an extra 20% VAT + a handling fee added at the border
then if it s faulty & you need to send it back, it can get very messy... and check if there are any regional firmware variations, - unless you are Ok with japanese help menus ![]() |

Only variation I have come across so far is the Goodreads on kindle. If your kindle is registered on Japanese amazon you cant have GR on kindle. But I had it registered on amazon.com at one point. Basically you can switch between the shops. And yes op should look into tax issue. Last edited by Geralt; 02-04-2014 at 04:28 AM. |

yes I know that, but sometimes you need enough of the native language, at 1st boot, to locate the option for English....
I'd imagine that factory default i.e. 1st time you ever switch on , that everything is in jap ? |

...if I knew, software updates would come to older devices more reliably (and quicker)...
Also if I knew that I could also not only use the device itself for personal content but could then also review possible annotation on the computer... IBooks can, Sony reader can, why cant Kindle... |

Huh? I was writing C code on my K3 for a Microchip microcontroller on the bus a week ago (in the VI editor in a terminal) and reviewing and annotating existing code I'd saved to the device as text files (because it was easier to toggle between the terminal and a document open as a book n the Kindle framework whenever I needed to check somkething).
I've just opened "My Clippings.txt" and here's one of the annotations: main.c - Note Loc. 1 | Added on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, 05:29 PM Timer 1 1:8 prescale desired period 62500 counts excess 3036 counts ========== There are plenty of choices of utility to work with the "My Clippings.txt" file, it just depends what you want to do with it. My only real gripe is the cruddy PDF handling, but that's just a matter of installing a 3rd party PDF viewer. Last edited by Ian.M; 02-04-2014 at 08:23 PM. |

With the way the older Kindles handle multiple books on the reader, I fail to see the advantages to have thousands of books on your Kindle at all times (better with collections on the KPW 2).
Just the thought of scrolling through the list of books, page by page... With a 3G Kindle, you can make sure that if you want to read one of your thousands of books, you can get it delivered to the device in a few minutes, wherever you are... Best regards, Andy |

Not wherever you are - not in many subways, not in plenty of rural and camping areas in my state, heck not even at some of my friends' suburban houses which are in no-reception zones.

One of the main advantages of the Kindle for me is that I can choose which book I want to read on the fly, depending on my mood or how big a block of time I have ahead of me.
Though I can always find something to read, the difference between choosing between some of my books and all of my books means that I have to pre-filter what to load onto it. It's the difference between knowing that all my books are with me, and knowing that I bought a book but not being quite sure if that particular one is available right now or not. Maybe if I mainly read fiction I'd only read one book at a time, but I have any number of nonfiction books going simultaneously. If that uncertainty could be eliminated by having a model with more memory or adding an SD card slot, then I'd be all over that. |

Hi Geralt,
indeed, let me correct my statement to "In many countries". (But is it NOT only UK/US) I found that the basic downloading of books is supported in very many (100+) countries. Take a look here: http://client0.cellmaps.com/viewer.html?cov=2&view=intl It's the free wireless web access that is more limited. Best regards, Andy |

Andy I know which countries are included, hence whatever in my sentence.
Just to show you it is the free wireless that is available in every cafe, every institution, every shop in my country. Not 3G support. You do realize I took all that into consideration when buying my device. |
