So far I read a lot more than I bought, so my "read all books on my kobo" is going well! And I have been reading a LOT, so getting to 75 this year shouldn't be a problem either.

Any one making any headway into reducing that to be read stack? I do not allow a to be read stack personally, I get the books as I read them. I have been trying to move towards free books and library books lately. I have picked up my next Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child book at the neighborhood library and I am going to pick up my next Michael Connlley at the library as well. I'm restricting the book purchases to one every other week, and this is not the week. Looks like I will be able to finish up the Harry Bosch books soon then I will press on to some other series, will need to check with fictfact on that one. The problem is that a lot of the series that I have open I will need to buy in order to make any progress, they are the lesser known authors that I am not likely to find in libraries. Any how fictfact will be helping with selecting a new sereis to read.

Well, I haven't managed to reduce the TBR, yet, but I'm doing okay on my attempt to increase it at a slower rate than last year.

I can't say that I've honestly reduced my TBR, but I have had a terrific month reading wise, with 8 full length books and one short story under my belt. My goal is to read at least 1 book a week and I'm averaging two..Yay!

If this job change succeeds, my commuting time will be around 1 hours 45 mintes per direction again, of which 1 hours 30 minutes in the same train. If I'm going to spend all of that time reading, I'd read around 3 hours per day, or 100 pages, which would come down to around 2 books of about 350 pages a week. (I also read in the weekends, but that's not while commuting of course.) My number of books would shoot up to about a 100 a year.
Assuming I do read all of that time. |

I've read fourteen books and bought ten, so that's good. I've also added a couple of free books though, so I'm not entirely sure my TBR list as such is actually any shorter, but as long as I don't buy more books than I read, I'll consider myself satisfied.

I fear I've got off to a bad start this January. A special offer by Constable & Robinson that ends on 31st January was too good to resist. I've bought 38 books from three authors and four series, for a total of £31.92 (or $47.88 at my nominal £1:$1.5 exchange rate).
This rather makes a mess of my $40/month budget. Perhaps I can get on track by being very frugal in February & March. |

Yes, I already owned several books in the bundle...but there were lots more that I'd had my eye on and hadn't quite ticked over into purchasing. At about $141 for the pack, I break even with undiscounted Kobo prices at about the 25-book mark. If only a third of the books are interesting and new-to-me, that's still an excellent deal...and they usually have a pretty good track record. |

I read 17 books and reduced my Unread Book Balance by $17.31 this month! A motivating start to the year. I only purchased four new books - two new releases with Kobo coupons and two deals that I just couldn't pass up.

January was good with 4 books read. I read 1 book from my Sci-fi (Roadside Picnic by Strugatsky brothers) and 1 from fantasy sub-challenge (The Golem's Eye by Jonathan Straud). I finished Bartimaeus trilogy too. Yay! I'm kinda sad I finished but there is one more book on my favorite jinni. Not exactly part of the trilogy but oh well.
Anyway, those 4 books got me up to 1400 pages, which is not bad. I'm 2 books ahead of my GR challenge and around 9% up on page challenge, which is a little better then I need to read each month to meet the goal. (15000/12 = 1250 pages a month) This year all good reads. 3 books with 5 stars and 1 with 4. Amazing! I expect February will be good too. I'm starting with Hitchhiker's Guide to Galaxy. I always wanted to read those ![]() |
