Remember NOT to upgrade your ADE software when advised of the next update - it will be for ADE3 DRM encryption. Same for those who use Sony Reader for PC - don't upgrade when notified.

Members have already reported receiving ADE3 encrypted from Kobo ebook purhases over the last few days.

There isn't any cleaner for ADE3 yet - so if you upgrade you will be stuck with DRM until there is.

For those folk who don't know what all this is about, please go to the News section for the thread on ADE3.

Was not the issue epub3 and that Kobo books without an Adobe download were in epub3? I couldn't find any mention of Kobo books with ADE3 encryption (although that probably means I just didn't look hard enough.)

ADE3 DRM is separate from whether the book being encrypted is EPUB v2 or EPUB v3; it has nothing to do with whether Kobo deigns to show a download link.

As far as I can tell, the only relationship between ADE3 and EPUB3 is that ADE3 should be better at rendering books that use EPUB3 features (like vertical text). Well, and that they both happen to be version three of something.

That goes for PC and any other device where you may have it installed.

For clarity reasons here is what pdurrant says in his opening post in the Adobe Digital Editions 3.0 Released thread in the News section:

So to avoid the new DRM scheme, make sure that you only download any newly purchased ePubs with ADE 2.0 for now.

Eventually, retailers/publishers might require the use of ADE 3.0 for new purchases. But until then, using ADE 2.0 is my advice.

Out of curiosity, how would you know? Kobo just says Adobe DRM ePub, not which type? I've bought a few books recently, but I don't know which sort they are.
