Just finished The Heretic by Tony Daniel/David Drake, the latest book in The General series. Quite enjoyed it, reminded strongly of the first book, with some new twists. Looking forward to the next installment

I'm reading Outback by Aaron Fletcher, suggested by Dr. Drib, and it is good, so I appreciate him starting a thread about it.

I finished up _Divergent_ by Veronica Roth. I picked up this book because of the upcoming movie. It seems to be the rage to have a teen heroine in a post apocalyptic word in a new "Utopian" society like Hunger Games.
That said, I enjoyed the book and will probably finish the trilogy. Since I finished I am still trying to slog my way to the end of _The Great Gatsby_. I just don't understand all the acclaim of this book. It is short and should be a quick read. But it just seems to jump around and doesn't keep my interest well. |

I took a side trip from Outback and read a short book called The House Guest. Amazon showed it as not available until Tuesday, but the Nook book was already here. (For I think 50 cents more.) It was really sweet and I was in the mood for a sweet, nice book. I feel like I've read a lot of dark books lately.

Working through some of the Stephen Leather non series books and thoroughly enjoying it. Just finished Payback, nearly through The Fireman with the Eye Witness next.

It's on my TBR list. Might just bump it up to nearer the top...

Finished both Doctor Sleep (audio) and Princess Bride a couple of days ago. Have since finished Still Life by Louise Penny. That was a great book, I'm looking forward to reading more of those. Today, I'm listening to Summer Knight by Jim Butcher, #4 of the Dresden series.

I'm now reading The Fairy-Tale Detectives, the first book in the Sisters Grimm series by Michael Buckley (the author of the NERDS series). I liked it after just two chapters and ended up reading almost half of the book in one sitting. I was so hoping to sneak in some extra reading time at work today, but that was a no go. |

I've been reading Ruddy Gore (Phryne Fisher #7) by Kerry Greenwood and for the first time in that series I found my attention wandering so decided to watch some TV. The movie V.I. Warshawski was just begining which reminded me that for some time now Indemnity Only (V.I. Warshawski #1) by Sara Paretsky had been on my TBR list, so I set the cable box to record, turned the TV off, dug out the book and began reading it.
After a lunch break I got on the computer and in the process I stumbled on a discussion about a book I'd downloaded several months ago, a fan-fic freebie called Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality by Eliezer Yudkowsky! Quite a mouthful isn't ir? Anyway, back then, when I found that it was an 'IN PROGRESS work' and already was at more than 1300 pages, I decided not to even begin reading it. So I download it again and began reading it on my computer and got so involved in the story that I put it on my Kindle for sake of convenience. Here's what GoodReads says: Quote:
'This fic is widely considered to have really hit its stride starting at around Chapter 5. If you still don't like it after Chapter 10, give up.' Well I found it entertaining and interesting from the very start and I'm about to begin Chapter 11. I'm enjoying it a lot, so no worries about giving up for me. The end of chapter 10, blew me away! I'm now reading 3 books at once! ![]() |
