Do be aware that Kobo might upgrade their Content Server to CS 4.2 at any time. If they do this, books downloaded with ADE 3 might use the new DRM instead of the old DRM.

I'm not sure this applies to all books. Actually, I'm sure it doesn't: There have been some Adobe DRM-ed books that I downloaded more than three times from Kobobooks (the Adobe versions, not the kepubs).

Yeah, when I read the rest of the thread I realized this (that Kobo probably aren't using CS 4.2/5.0 yet). I'll downgrade to ADE 2.01 this evening, just to be on the safe side for now...

Absolutely. Don't let my plea for less panic be mistaken by anyone for "nothing at all to worry about here."

Staying with ADE 2.0 until you have no other choice is solid advice (and not currently any kind of hardship). I was just seeing a lot of panicked "flailing" going on without any real data (other than from an anonymous poster who may or may not have had some inside info).

As I said: when using ADE 3.0, your downloads are going to be unpredictable, completely depending on the CS version the seller is running. When downloading using ADE 2.0, you will be sure to obtain a book using the old DRM-format, and therefore, I'll run ADE 2.01 as long as it is supported, or at least until the new DRM is cracked.

It's strange how suddenly there's security vulnerabilities announced for ADE 2.01 in the last few days...

Pfeh. If you follow the news, it seems that Adobe is capable of introducing multiple security vulnerabilities in "Hello World!". Probably only Java is worse.

I hate it that I MUST have Adobe Reader installed on my computer, because I need to fill out and sign PDF's and be 100% sure that they are compatible with Adobe Reader others are using.

I *think* Nitro PDF is compatible with Adobe Reader?

Maybe it is. Maybe it isn't.

I need to be sure that *any* PDF I create, fill out, and sign will work 100% in Adobe Reader and Acrobat, so it is a bad idea to use other programs than the Adobe ones.

Yep, they're industry leaders in that, it's just the timing is rather convenient...

On the other hand, it is a standard practice (standard, not necessarily the good/best one)to only publish vulnerabilities when a correction is available.
It also is standard practice to publish corrections in a major/minor release rather than as a quick patch.

(On the Other hand, the previous Vulnerability had been fixed via a sub-minor release... 2.0-->2.0.1 cf http://web.nvd.nist.gov/view/vuln/de...013-1377&cid=7 )

But this (supposedly new) vunlerability leaves e-booksellers in a not so nice spot : either they recommend switching to the updated 3.0 version (with risks on loosing access to earlier ebooks (and no anti-DRMTools), or they recommend keeping to an officially vulnerable (Critical) earlier version.

The few distributors that I talk with (on twitter, in French) don't seem to really appreciate that idea very much.

Yep, I don't blame them for waiting for the next version, and I don't really believe they've left those to encourage people to move, but I like conspiracy theories sometimes...

I think I have downloaded Library books more than three times before.

I hope the three time limit isn't correct anywhere - what if you buy new computers or ereaders? Or have to wipe existing hardware multiple times and have to download again.
