Thus, this coming Fall those of us, who buy every new Kindle model, may get our Kindles delivered to us before the new models are announced and before we even place our orders.

Sounds more like '"Amazon have thought of a loophole to have distribution warehouses everywhere without paying tax".

How can you patent an idea which is essentially how all B&M stores work?

I may just be feeling cynical today though

Sounds like they are going on the premise that if person x buys this then they will buy this as well. Stores have been doing something similar for years. If you have the store's card you have it swiped when you buy groceries and they know what the average person is looking to buy in the future.

Amazon already knows what I want to buy. I can tell this just by looking at their front page when I go their website with their targeted advertising.

I'm often baffled by what Amazon thinks I will like. Ever notice that when you buy something, you keep getting ads for that same thing - I already bought it, I won't want another for years.

It isn't that Amazon can know that a particular person will place an order at any particular time, but they can know that a certain number of people is a particular area will be placing an order.

The packages would get shipped with a partial address, and the actual address is updated in the shipping company's records when the order is placed, while the package is in transit.

I think it's a brilliant idea for a big country like the US, where surface shipping can easily take two or three days.

Essentially they'll be using the shipping company's buildings and trucks as remote warehouses.

Amazon definitely does not know what I like. I know I do not read romance or horror novels, yet they continually post them on my front page as novels I might like.

I am not against others reading those by the way. I just do not have any desires to read those genres, just as others have no desire to read the genres I like.

Predicting what one individual will like/buy at a certain time is very hard, if not impossible.
Predicting what 10,000 people will like/buy is a lot easier. Especially if you have their order history for the past year.
