Jade Ti Kwan Yin. This is technically an Oolong, but really a pale green in colour and very light but excellent taste. A perfect late afternoon tea with a couple of Hobnobs.

An oat-based biscuit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HobNob. Not, so far as I know, available in most US groceries, though you can order them from Amazon. A perfect tea biscuit.
A glass of Aberfeldy tonight. Last edited by CRussel; 01-23-2014 at 12:37 AM. |

Oatmeal in my cup. I've been trying different ways to flavor/sweeten steel cut oats. I recently got a rice cooker with a porridge cycle, so it can have my oatmeal ready to eat when I get up. I'm not a huge fan of oatmeal, but I really want to change some eating habits and this makes it easy. Anyway, we have a winner! In the rice cooker, steel cut oats, water, a little salt, a little brown sugar...and half of a cut-up ripe banana. Yum! Adds sweetness AND taste when it cooks with the oatmeal.

Betty, I am starting to play with the steel cut oats as well. The best part is that you can make a huge pot and store leftovers in the fridge. Put a little milk in the cold oats, nuke them, and you have a yummy breakfast fast. Love it. I am going to be making a pot a week so I can bring them to work with me. Better then instant oatmeal.
Seven Sons Pu Erh in my mug. I need to order more tea |

I've been having steel cut oats for breakfast for years -- just finishing a bowl now, as a matter of fact. I have a crock pot (well, a couple) but haven't tried it for the oats, yet.
While the oats cook on the stove I put some frozen berries in a bowl and "nuke 'em" for a couple of minutes in the microwave. My regular blend is a three berry mix I get from Costco (raspberries, blackberries, and blue berries) and frozen cherries, but I also throw some cranberries in every once in a while. I finish it off with some maple syrup (the real stuff when I splurge, the imitation stuff most days) and some buttermilk. And, now for a mug of tea. |

I have already been making my oatmeal the microwave way for years. I have a rice steamer and may have to give that a try for oatmeal plus the idea of putting the bananas in while it cooks sounds interesting. Fresh coffee in my cup and a biscotti on my plate. The chocolate hobnob does sound good and somewhat like the biscotti. |

A friend at church this morning said she cooks her oats overnight in the crockpot with a diced apple and cinnamon, or sometimes with frozen peaches. So many things to try - thanks for all the ideas!
