I never read 50 Shades, so I can't say. I'd say they are BDSM light. There's a contract in the first book and definitely 24/7 sub lifestyle in all 3 but the h's were not shy virgins and not really TSL (maybe only a time or two). The men were alpha doms, sometimes a--holey, and basically fell in insta-lust-love (and I happen to enjoy that trope). Overall I enjoyed all of the characters. I enjoyed the books, didn't luuuuurve them, even though I did give them 4 stars - mostly because I rated them right after I read them and they made me feel happy and feel good and I still loved all of the characters in the end If I went back, I'd probably have to downgrade to 3.5 because the stories did lack a little bit of depth. But I would re-read them (if I ever, you know, got through my TBR) and I would definitely read more of the series if she came out with more. She wrapped it up pretty good, but there are a couple of side characters/romances where I could see her producing a novella to give us readers a little more.

I hear what you're saying about the 50 Shades thing though. I probably would have avoided them too if I weren't already a Maya Banks fan. In fact, I avoided the Sylvia Day books for the same reason - never read her so shied away because of the similarities (supposed?) to 50 Shades.

Wow... prolly way more than you bargained for with your question!

Have you tried the Graveyard Queen series by Amanda Stevens?

It's definitely paranormal/real world without any type of 'creatures'. I quite enjoyed the series... there are currently three with I think a few more coming as soon as she gets back on track with writing (her husband died unexpectedly last year). I would say it's paranormal/mystery with some romance in it, but the romance is definitely there.

When looking for books by my current obsession Sarah MacLean on OD I came across a couple of books by Stella MacLean and am currently reading Baby in Her Arms. It's about a widow who comes across letters from her deceased hubby who writes a poignant picture of the years of their relationship, helping her to move on, and form a relationship with the next door neighbor. Trouble is, it's in first person, which I'm not a big fan of, and also, I don't remember reading any other first person Harlequins (it's a SuperRomance).

I've read that book and it seemed more like women's fiction than a Hqn Superromance to me. Kind of surprising.

Sometimes its amazing to find the things I already own in my goodreads account. . I own the prequel thingy, The Abandoned. Moving it up on my queue.
fizzywater, I'll check out that Casey Daniels series, sounds interesting.

And I also own the first in the Charley Davidson series. I can't even remember why and when I bought that. Am I sleepbuying now?

I really need to quit buying books. Paid or free, doesn't matter. I just have so much stuff that I often don't remember, as this post shows. I mean I sort them in shelves, in lists, in virtual libraries, but there are still so many that they just keep slipping through. Then I go and buy something new to read or get another library book. Or someone here recommends something I have to add to the lists. And do I have lists.

I started to laugh at sleepbuying...then remembered my best friend and her adventures on Ambien. Which included binge eating, sleepwalking, and yes, a couple of online shopping sprees!

The Casey Daniels books look interesting to me too, I'll have to add them to my list.

Do I read

Simple Irresistible by Jill Shalvis (Lucky Harbor Series)
OR
Virgin River by Robyn Carr (Virgin River series)

I've read and enjoyed both books, but they are very different in tone, so I think it would depend on your mood. Simply Irresistible can be serious but is also lighthearted, with lots of witty banter. It's more of a romantic comedy whereas Virgin River is a more serious romance.

I started Simply Irresistible last night so far it's okay nothing really catching me. I think it's the whole instant lust thing throwing me off. I'm sure as I read more it will get better and it is a Jill Shalvis book right? I will read Virgin River next.

Today has been a really stressful day. I found out someone from my teen years who I cared about and use to date passed away from Cancer and My niece who was having a baby tomorrow went into labor early and they did the C section as planned. The baby seems healthy but it's right arm didn't form all the away so I've been dealing with screaming crying hysterical women (not the mother) all night trying to explain to them that's going to be okay. He'll be a happy baby and happy kid just need a little help sometimes. All this on 4h hours of sleep I may have to start a new book just to get mind off all this. I need a escape! Maybe a nice funny regency. It's my comfort genre when I need to get away from everything.

Kindle store is having a Romance sale on their Montlake titles from $0.99 and up.

55 Books on sale!

Keep in mind some of these are topaz format. I picked up the Bobbi Smith books I didn't have knowing they were topaz format. These are new releases of very old books never available before in ebook format. Amazon has been doing this alot lately it's a lazy way to make a book digital but I am willing to take a chance for the price on converting these treasures.

I have to say I absolutely adore the Charley Davidson books by Darynda Jones. Another series that I freaking LOVE is the Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne. Not romance, and a male lead, but SO different and so utterly amazing!

2nd the love for the Iron Druid Chronicles! Great urban fantasy series.

I just started the Charley Davidson books and they're so funny! I'd had them for a while sitting on my TBR "pile" but the recommendations in this thread pushed it to the top.
