Kindle for iOS 4.1 released - Page 3

Now that the kindle for ios app shows page numbers in bottom left footer, I was wondering if there is a particular format or special trick to get these page numbers to show on sideloaded books? Currently all my sideloaded ones still say location and time to read, but the Amazon-purchased ones show page numbers instead of location, which is awesome. Can personal sideloaded books be tweeked in some way to fix this, or is this another limitation we will have to live with?

Also, I sort of wish the new update had given us the vocabulary builder function on the new pw2. That would come in handy for us word nerds (or maybe it's just me?)

For Amazon page numbers (not all books have them) are mapped to correspond to the actual pages in a physical paper edition so I don't think there's a way to do that on your own sideloaded stuff.

Yes, they tend to purposely keep the updates to the apps at a lesser level than the Kindles and Fires.

There is no way to make personal docs (files you email to the device or use Send To Kindle to place them in the Cloud) display page numbers in the iOS app. But I've heard you can do so with calibre and sideloaded docs. But these page numbers won't correspond to the print book's page numbers. I've never done it though.

That's too bad. My paperwhite 1 shows page numbers on side loaded content, though I'm sure it's just approximate based on a certain number of words per page. Not a big deal I guess, I just can't stand seeing things like "Loc 24385".

You can display page numbers with sideloaded files on an eInk Kindle, but not with the iOS Kindle App, because there's no way to transfer the ".apnx" file that holds the page numbers.

Tweeking them in Calibre is exactly what I'm looking for. I figured there would be a way to do it that way, just like how you can remove the Personal Document banner from content by changing PDOC to EBOK in Calibre. Can't seem to find any mention of it anywhere. I figured if anybody knew, it would be you guys.

According to HarryT, it cannot be done for the iOS app, so I edited my original post. Sorry it doesn't work.

The iOS version does not support KF8 anyway and the old Mobi never supported this. It has its own format.

Excellent - the new version fixes the long delays with the home page. It comes up instantly now.
