ODT TOC conversion question
Am using Libreoffice Writer's outline function to automatically number table of contents and also adding in the word 'chapter'. This looks great while in Writer but the preliminary text "Chapter 1" etc does not carry over in the conversion process. I located the idea of saving the ODT file as HTML then saving it again from HTML to ODT, but this process seems to dislike having images in the file. The images appear as tiny blue icons only in the final output.

I have 2 workarounds: (1) manually put in "Chapter 1", "Chapter 1", et cetera after the fact, but this is tedious. (2) Put in the images last. Neither of these methods make good use of Libreooffice Writer's F5 navigation function or of the automatice creation of a TOC via H1, H2, etc. I am hoping there is a convenient, real way to make use of this auto-numbering available in ODT that survives conversion to EPUB or MOBI.

Try using the Writer2EPUB plugin for LO/OO instead of Calibre

Libreoffice Writer has a feature which automatically numbers chapters and it will also put any text (i.e., "Chapter") in front of the number. However, none of this gets passed along with Calibre when making an EPUB or MOBI. Does anyone know of a way to do this using Calibre? The 2 step HTML process works, but it also destroys any included pictures withing the file.

Thank you for the tip. However, The TOC editor still requires manual entry chapter by chapter if I understand it correctly. About the HTML -- Does it somehow kill off pictures? HTML also, when used in calibre, seems to "run off" the right margin. I have spent several hours learning the ins and outs of using this in various ways but cannot get past this hurdle.

In 99% of the cases, you have done something to prevent text flow in your source. ( <pre> ? ) Read the labels on ALL the buttons, Many operate on the book. USE with care. Always have a backup for those cases where what you got was really not what you wanted. |
