After looking at SoundTaxi (and finding the trial totally useless), I went with dBpoweramp and found their trial much more useful and representative, and the conversion speed and quality far better, so far as I was able to judge, given how limited the SoundTaxi demo is.

Yep I kinda figured the Trail was useless or I was to dumb to figure it out. I didn't expect it to do more than a few chapters so I could hear what it would sound like. Anyway I tried the other ones they were a PAIN! Wouldn't download correct wouldn't install wanted to Force me to change to that Stupid Chrome or use stupid iTunes! ... No Thanks! I done! I just wont be BUYING any Audios... just get the freebies! Keep my money in my pocket LOL

It's not just Navy retirees, it's all military retirees as well, my BiL is retired USAF and has an account, I'm civil service and have an account as well. You just have to have access to a computer with government access to set up your account. Once that's done you can access it from any computer.

I'm not sure I understand the question, soondai? dBpoweramp is primarily about converting various formats of audio files. There are lots of applications that will record audio, and dBpoweramp will certainly take what you've recorded and convert it to just about any format you want. So far as I'm aware, the old audible media filter is a read-only filter, but then I really haven't investigated. Couldn't imagine that anyone actually wanted to create .AA files directly. If you're selling books to Audible, I doubt they expect them to be delivered in .AA format. I strongly suspect they generate the .aa file from some more generic media.

Thanks, CRussel. I wasn't clear. I'm just trying to back up my Audible books (not make my own). I've gotten the audible filter/goldwave method posted elsewhere on the web to work. Takes about 30 minutes to back up a 6 hour file.

Ah, soondai, that makes more sense. In that case, the dBpoweramp method just backed up 8 books (4 were 2 files, one was 3 files), in less than 10 minutes. The audible filter is exactly the same you already have installed. You simply add the registered version of dBpoweramp and you're good to go. I think you may have to edit one file to tell dBpoweramp that .aa is a DirectShow extension. But really, this is way faster than either goldwave or soundtaxi.

If I had a large library, I'd definitely invest in dBpoweramp. I just have a dozen or so of their Great Courses things, so 12x will work okay for me.

Check your Audible accounts. I'm a platinum member & had 3 credits accrued. Just got the email about the 3 for 2 sale & went to check it out. All my credits are gone and my membership status is Not Enrolled. Calling now.

It's strange, I don't remember having any trouble with Audible back in the early days, and with Amazon itself, in the rare cases of trouble, their support has lived up to to it's excellent rep, but since Amazon has owned Audible, it's like they can't stay out of their own way. Do two rights make a wrong?

I've not had any issues with Audible, and their tech support has continued to be flawless since the acquisition. Because I am continually building and rebuilding machines, both for test and to install beta versions of whatever OS I'm writing about, I often require Audible to reset my enrolled devices and/or computers so the DRM behaves and doesn't hit the maximum numbers. I've never once had any issue with them doing it, and that includes post acquisition. (The most recent time was a few weeks ago when they reset all my enrolled machines and devices on all three accounts.)
I just logged in this morning and my 2 credits are still showing. And the 3-for is showing as well. So whatever the issue, it seems to have been resolved. |
