Started Accelerando by Stross this morning. Free download at MR of a Creative Commons book. I've barely begun it, but so far, it seems like it has potential. More later, after I get farther into it.

I'm most of the way through
Everything Bad Is Good for You: How Today's Popular Culture Is Actually Making Us Smarter by Steven Johnson It's an interesting book, and he does make quiet a few good points. I'm going to follow this with The Dumbest Generation: How the Digital Age is Stupefying Young Americans and Jeopardizes Our Future by Mark Bauerlein to get the other side of the argument. Lets see who make the most sense in the end ![]() |

You might also want to try What Video Games Have to Teach Us About Learning and Literacy, by James Paul Gee.
I started re-reading The Madness Season by C.S. Friedman. It's been a number of years since I last read it. Enjoying it so far. |

I'm completely hooked on the Honor Harrington Books by David Weber right now. Complete escapist brain candy but so well written. At first I got a bit frustrated with his tendency to describe the political factions and infighting but now that I've got his 'Honorverse' fixed in my mind i'm glad I didn't just bleep over the pages setting the poitical scene because each book is really just a continuation of all the others.
I'm an addict! Its kind of a bummer becasue he onbly wrote about 13 or 14 of them and then I'll be done... |

Just finished American Wife, by Curtis Sittenfield. It's a fairly quick read, and interesting. More nuanced than I'd expected, given the subject matter.

Just finished A Sundial in a Grave: 1610 by Mary Gentle.
Quite entertaining story. Similar to the best of Dumas. Just a bit more of humour, less of tragedy, and a little bit more of sex ![]() 8 our 10. Many people say that Ash is better. If they ever publish it in ebook format, I will definitely read it in future. However, right now I am desperate to read more fantasy and am looking forward to read the last two books in the Crown of Stars series by Kate Elliott [book 6 (In the Ruins) and 7 (Crown of Stars)] |

I stopped reading this one. It is full of politics and intrigue, and I think it will appeal to a lot of you political animals out there. But for me, it wasn't escapism, so I stopped. It was making me think too hard. ![]() I started Maelstrom by Peter Watts, book 2 following the Tor freebie of Starfish. It takes up immediately following the end of the apocalypse in Starfish. I got this one as a free download also, but I'm not sure where - Sorry. As a matter of fact, I got the whole 4 book set. I'll have to look up where I got it. Funny... I like something that requires me to concentrate, because otherwise I'm not really engaged in the story and my other troubles can still creep in.
