I tried, but I can't get the Sony Reader software to run properly at all on Mavericks here. It seems rather irredeemably broken to me (and the System Requirements don't actually list support for Mavericks).

Can you download the book you've bought directly from the Sony ebookstore to Adobe Digital Editions (click DOWNLOAD NOW from the book in your library and tell it to open in Adobe Digital Editions, assuming you've installed that first)? After that, it's easy. The book will download in ADE. You can then either put the book directly on your Sony using ADE, or you can hoik it out to work with it. You'll find it in ~/Documents/Digital Editions. It may or may not have DRM on it. You'll need to figure out how to take this off, if you wish to. Google Apprentice Alf.

Really, forget the Sony software. ADE -> Calibre works.

Okay this is odd.

I just tried deleting some e-books in the Finder in the directory: /User/<Username>/Documents/My Books/Reader/ however, the e-books still show up in the Sony Reader software? How is this possible?

sony software has a database/index file, I know that because if you open a book with reader software that is stored elsewhere e.g. in calibre library, it only stores a pointer to that book location, it does not make a copy of the book file

to remove that pointer you have to "delete book" within the reader app - trusting that it will not actually delete the calibre library file

So I am guessing is that when you manually delete a file, the reader software database is unaware & thus claims the book is stlll there - what happens if you say "ok - open the book for me then" - does it then have 2nd thoughts ?

Well when I delete it manually, I'm still able to open the e-book in the Sony software, which doesn't make sense because it should say the file cannot be found. I can open the e-book and all the content of the e-book is there...

beacuse it is using pointers
it is an easy puzzle to solve if you are at the PC or Mac. just search your hard drive to see where the book IS , that it is opening, then see what happens when you rename that file

if the file can be opened then it must EXIST, and of your e-reader is disconnected then it must EXIST on the HARD DRIVE, so puzzle it out...

maybe it stashes a copy in APP data but a full hard drive search , including hidden folders, will discover that.

I don't use a MAC so that is all the help that i am going to post, but that's how I'd solve it for Windows.

you have some software which is opening a file.. so you need to find where that file is stored, or wait patiently for someone else to do it for you

What kind of books are they? Did you purchase them from Sony?

Why is this?
By file names not changed on the T2, do you mean that you see 2 books on your T2 with the same name? The T2 reads the file metadata which means descriptive data about the book such as title and author. When you changed the file name, it didn't change the title metadata so it will look like you have 2 identical copies in the T2 library. Open each book and in the menu look at book details information, and it will show you the different file names.

They're just regular .epub and .pdf files. I've never purchased from the Sony Store.
