My first choice is to buy direct from the publisher/author if possible, e.g. Baen, Spatterlight Press, Closed Circle.
Otherwise I buy wherever is cheapest, 90% of the time that is Kobo, but occasionally Diesel or OmniLit. |

I buy from several different vendors, but I prefer to use Kobo and keep most of my cloud library together. I also check Smashwords, Diesel, B&N, Sony, and sometimes ebooks.com as general retailers, although I have to be careful with B&N due to the oddball copy protection's restrictions. (Similarly, I have to keep a sharp eye on Kobo these days; they seem to have a problem with EPUB3 books. Specifically, that seems to be the common factor in their "no download button" books.) On rare occasions, I'll hit Amazon for a Kindle-format book, but that's either when it's an exclusive book or just a smashingly good deal. Other once-in-a-while sites include RPGnow for gaming fiction and Humble Bundle for their occasional ebook bundles.
Baen's a good publisher store, but you shouldn't ignore Angry Robot - they share the same dedication to DRM-free ebooks, even though Kobo sometimes applies DRM to AR books. I haven't been able to discern a pattern to that yet. One publisher I can't seem to stay away from, despite how horrible their ebook code is, is Phoenix Pick. The upside is that they give away one free classic SF book a month, and they don't apply DRM. The downside is that their code is bloated beyond all reasonable expectations, to the point that sometimes it affects the display. (Their copyright pages are especially ugly.) Still, I like classic SF, especially for free, and I've gotten the knack of fixing their code. Aside from that, it's pretty much a matter of buying straight through the authors. Matt Forbeck, Diane Duane, and Chuck Wendig come to mind as having good personal stores. Last edited by Rev. Bob; 01-10-2014 at 02:55 AM. |

I buy from kobo, usually, with a coupon code.
I am from Singapore, so I can't buy from amazon or barnes and noble. It is possible for me to buy from kobo, though. |

I used to buy from Smashwords, but I've been very disappointed in the quality of many of the epubs. When I contacted them, they'd point me to a new version, which still had the identical issues (text jumps around various extreme font sizes even within the same paragraphs and sentences).
So now I've only been buying from Amazon and some from B&N and converting to epub for my devices. |

Amazon, B&N, and Kobo primarily.
(less and less from B&N, though) |

I too was a BoB shopper and am sad it's gone.
Now I shop from BAM (Books-a-Million). Through the military Aafes site you become a member. They have all the selections I want at decent prices. The epub have not had any problems that I have noticed. I just found another site, apparently newer and not as many books, but it's through the Overdrive system and when you purchase through the Overdrive Library (Purchase this book now), that library receives some of the profits. www.librarybin.com (The only drawback I saw was there is not searching by Author, just Book title) So: Bam and LibraryBin for me. I buy mostly from Amazon, unless I'm able to use a coupon code at Kobo. I usually stick to using the 50%-75% coupons.

Almost all books come from amazon. A few have come from sourcebooks publisher direct, no DRM.
I can't figure out how to operate kobo site or to figure out how to get those books onto my Kindle. Or any other site really. I could barely figure out how to back up amazon books. So amazon it is for me. Everything in one place is pretty nice anyway. |

Ebooks.com allows you to download both epub and PDF with the same purchase if both are available, so I'll preferably buy from them if a PDF is available. That's becoming more and more rare, though.
With a good coupon price, I buy from Kobo. At least recently, this has been most of my books. If prices are nearly the same, I buy from B&N (I prefer B&N, but I end up buying more from Kobo based on price). If an ebook is available at Parable (a Christian bookstore), then I'll buy it there because a local brick-and-mortar Parable store gets a cut if I use their link. I've bought a few books from Sony, but it's quite rare that they have a better price than both Kobo and B&N. I used to buy occasionally from Christianbook because books published by Thomas Nelson were DRM-free, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. I'll buy from Amazon if a book isn't available as a PDF or epub and I still want it badly enough. I won't buy from Google because they sometimes make formatting changes to epub books and there's no real way of knowing beforehand if they have or not. |

I shop where the price is lowest.
First I try Kobo with great coupons and options for world-travel. Then B&N, indie webstores like Baen, Diesel, Smashwords, BlushingBooks and finally Amazon. I find that Amazon is rarely the lowest price, except for deals. I miss BooksOnBoard. |
