Kindle Touch screen issues
hi,
suddenly my kindle touch screen stop responding. the screen image can change and i didn't think it was something broken (substrate or something) .. now not so sure. ![]() so i tried almost everything: - reboot the device (20s press) - remove the battery - jailbreak the device - upgrade the OS - even thought it was bricked (silly me) and tried Kubrick ... needless to say i struggled getting it back to boot normally because the screen wasn't working and got stuck in diags page .. did some search on the forum and got it back to boot. I can add books to it, i can see the screensaver image changing but looks like the screen is dead (touch capacity gone) and have no idea why and if it can be repaired. so i have 2 questions: 1. is it possible to figure what's wrong with it? 2. can I add an external keyboard easily and still use it as a kindle ? if not maybe i can display some info from a rasperry pi on it ![]() thanks a lot. |

Keyboard: No
RPI: YES. Stick a webserver or something on it, run a mesuite on the kindle, maybe a pillow? |

might sound silly ... but is it possible to put ssh on it and connect it to wifi without being able to use the touch screen for input?

@neos2k1: Theoretically, yes, but you'd better be familiar with the process, or you risk getting screwed.

@NiLuJe: can you give me some links and point me in the right direction ?
something is not working anyway... since i used Kubrik at every restart i get the system diags page. i have to use the mfgtool every time and select the kindle main profile to get the "regular" kindle screen. At the next restart i get the sys diags. ![]() now is it possible to fix this and revert to normal screen without selecting an option from the diags screen (touch not working) ? |

Hook your serial adapter to the Kindle's serial port - see if you also have a copy of the diag menu there when it is on-screen. |

@neos2k1: Basically, read the USBNet doc, and do everything that it recommends *NOT* to do ;D ("dry coding" a wifi only + auth config, essentially).
I strongly concur with knc1 that a serial access would be a tremendous advantage. |

I am still trying to work out how a DIY person can assemble these parts. Having the correct parts at hand is a big step forward - But the size of these things !! I also, as a self-gift from ![]() Thought that would help if I could see what I was doing. Yeah! Right! Now all I can see is the parts (still small) being handled by something that looks like fat sausages. ah - translation: Still working on the details of the "HowTo DoIt". ![]() Hmm.... Maybe they use trained fleas. |
