Update your firmware to 5.3.4 and stay with that firmware (this is the last version which is fully supported by JBPatch, for example):

@harun_koseoglu: Define 'Not working'.
The 5.3.x updates are full updates, they pretty much don't care about the state of the system as long as you can put something in the userstore & reboot. |

@harun_koseoglu: Again, we're gonna need *way* more details.
What exactly did you do, what happened, what's the feedback on the screen, etc. |

Well, try to check your downloaded file. The "update_kindle_5.3.4.bin" should be 171598529 bytes long and its md5sum should be "579c8d8f6f38111e1e02105349505b42" (or its sha1sum which should be "9c87da5c32acc94ccf433f198f18606fcab6201b").
I assume that when you say "tap the update device button" you actually mean a two step procedure. First you enter "Main Menu" -> "Settings" and then when the "Settings" screen is displayed you enter "Main Menu" -> "Update Your Kindle". And I hope you read: Transfer & Install Software Updates Manually http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...deId=201177270 Troubleshooting Kindle Paperwhite Software Updates http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...deId=201177280 Last edited by pepe_alter_ego; 01-05-2014 at 03:19 PM. |

@harun_koseoglu: If it rebooted straight the the system after the 'update', then something's very wrong, because it should have triggered the actual update process at boot instead.
It's not instantaneous, you should have seen one long(ish) update process with a progress bar at one point (put file, click update, it reboots, *NOW* it actually updates, it reboots, boom, 'new' version). Last edited by NiLuJe; 01-06-2014 at 12:46 AM. |
