What should be coming available copyright free

As I understand it, the copyright rules apply to published works for 60 to 70 years after the authors death. So I was wondering what delights should become available copyright free during this year?

For example should Guy Gibson's "Enemy Coast Ahead" become available?

Next Year. Gibson died in 1944, so his work becomes public domain on 1 Jan 2015.

Although tongue-in-cheek, it has more and more validity. I believe a lot of people, a.k.a. netizens, feel they have less in common with a nation, than fellow interest groups. Look at the national diversity here on MR, then look at what we have in common. Debates may be spirited and lively, but most people here would probably welcome a modernization of copyright laws. Why should Americans get screwed over by their government just because they were born in the same country as Walt Disney?

Very close - I simply believe we humans are one race living on one planet, which in the vastness of space is microscopic. I just wish we could all live in harmony without nationalistic and other artificial boundaries.

Sorry I think which country is irrelevant. Different countries rules just means the year in which items become copyright free varies between countries. Everyone can look forward to some new copyright free works being available this year, surely. I was trying to general rather than specific and limiting to a single country.

Not true. Lots of new material enters the public domain every year, even in the US. For example, the majority of material published by Federal government agencies is in the public domain.
