I must admit to probably being guilty of interpreting his words about communication devices to fit. I suspect he was actually thinking of fixed devices, not portable devices one could keep in a pocket.

Yep, that's one very interesting aspect of being a long time SF reader. I do think many of the things 'predicted' -- while being somewhat reasonable -- were also in mind by scientists and engineers when developing new products and technologies. The first step is always to imagine it!

Hover cars and flying cars aren't really the optimal solution. They just waste too much energy. Unless we do the impossible and find energy efficient anti-grav or some other superior energy storage method they aren't going to happen...
