That's part of the 5.4.2 firmware, and Amazon is supposed to fix it sometime soon, or rather, sometime, since we have no idea when that might be. In the meantime, you can downgrade to 5.4.0 firmware here: http://ixtab.tk/kindle-touch-images/PW2/README.txt

But that is somewhat technical and involved and you might want to wait for the rumored update.

Quick question here - I'm looking to purchase a new Paperwhite from Waterstones.

It should be on the 5.4.2 software - and if I jailbreak it as in this thread can I:

Install anything to display the cover of the last book/current book I am reading as the screensaver (as is displayed on devices like a Kobo etc.)

Install anything to let me read EPUB format books (If not - I can use Calibre to convert).

2/ Yep. You even have multiples choices (KOReader, and a couple of different ports of CR/CRE).

AFAIK the only Waterstones branding on them is the screensaver - would the procedure on the link below to install the Cover mode work with the latest firmware and model

Since I have the new PW2 JB with the new Duokan and Kual I want to prevent Amazon to upgrade my firmware, have I to install the loophole hack to prevent this even on this version ?

I would like to know:
1) Is there any real benefit from upgrading to 5.4.2? I don't need or want access restricts on my device for my children (which seems to be the big feature?).
2) If yes: Since i'm using KUAL, JBPatch and custom screensavers - does this things still work?

The highest firmware for the PW1 (old) is 5.3.9....5.4.2 is the current firmware for the PW2 (new). I have upgraded to 5.3.9 mostly because I got sick of worrying about avoiding upgrades -- this had to do with the JBPatch hack which allows for hyphenations (which I feel is a must have) and is NOT supported past firmware 5.3.4 (I think that is as far as it goes). I converted my entire library to AZW3's and use the hyphenation plugin for Calibre instead of JBPatch. As far as I can tell, everything else works fine on 5.3.9 (KUAL, etc).

To answer your other question, I have found nothing of interest to me in the more current firmwares as opposed to 5.3.4.

I have found nothing compelling in the newer FW's for the PW1, however I only read on it and don't use wifi features or dictionaries (I think there were some features that others found interesting with regard to dictionaries). The latest PW1 firmware can still be found at Amazon that you can manually download and sideload/install...don't worry about trying to upgrade to the wrong firmware and hurting your device, it just won't upgrade.

Yes, the Dev's here packaged up a single jailbreak for both devices...the Dev's here are excellent that way!. But always be sure to read EVERYTHING they post about their hacks before applying.

edit- If you are using USE_ALT_FONTS, NiLuJe has recommended removing it before upgrading firmwares as there is the potential for problems (then reinstall after upgrade).
