I run my Downpour books through MediaMonkey, then to my Clip. No unknowns or tracks played out of sequence yet. But then; I only have a few from Downpour, so rarely play them.
Heh... Appropriately named then, MediaMonkey.

Will give it a go. Love the idea of buying unencumbered mp3s if I can, and MMonkey sounds like it will do the trick. Sending to device is what's missing from Nightengale, though it seems like a decent cataloging program.

Thanks tubemonkey - and Happy 2014 !!

I do as someone else suggested and add audiobooks as an "empty book" in Calibre. But I don't create a separate library--I just tag them as audiobooks. Since I have them organized in folders it is not hard to find the files when I need them, but if you really wanted to be organized about it, you could link each book entry to its folder using the summary field in Calibre. I usually copy the length, narrator, and other info in there anyway.

Ah, now if Calibre could play sound files.......
I use sound taxi to liberate audible books. I used to burn them to a cd image, then strip to mp3, but sound taxi is easier.

ChristianAudio - Free Audiobook of the Month - exp 31 Jan

Quote:
The ESV Hear the Word is available in two different download formats. After purchasing, you can choose MP3 zip files that are encoded by chapter and foldered by book of the bible (each chapter of each book is its own MP3 file). You can also choose to download the M4B format, which is encoded in 66 individual files (downloadable in zipped folders) and offers iTunes & iOS device users the option of bookmarking and easily skipping between chapters of each book.

Now the complete ESV Bible comes alive in audio format! The new ESV Hear the Word Audio Bible provides more than 75 hours of Bible reading, for listening at home, in your car, or for loading on an MP3 player. The ESV Hear the Word Audio Bible is ideal for busy commuters, people on the go, and for the visually impaired—anyone who prefers to listen to as well as read the Bible.

You need to go through the check out process and put in the code: crimefree. When you do that, it will then show a total price of $0 before the sale is finalized.

I plan to read Crime & Punishment this year and the audiobook will come in super-handy when my eyes need a break.

Whispersync for Voice - Free Audiobook for Jan 2014 -- exp 31 Jan

Step 1 - buy the free ebook from Kindle
Step 2 - follow the Whispersync link to Audible to buy the free audiobook

Note: Audible does not have the audiobook priced for free yet. If it doesn't come up for free after following the above steps, call Audible (1-888-283-5051) and explain it to them. In my case, the rep gave me a credit for the amount of the book while I was talking to him. It showed up on a page refresh and I made the purchase. The price ($0.99 for me) was deducted from that credit.

Quote:
Audible Editor Reviews

Author Arnold Bennett lived a busy life. He was a prolific English writer who moved to France and became a high-ranking bureaucrat. He also dabbled in film and opera, and had a rich personal life. How to Live on 24 Hours a Day is chock full of Bennett’s tried-and-true advice. Bennett urges his audience to live authentic and ambitious lives. For Bennett, time is the great equalizing currency: No one can choose their allotment, or accrue additional time. So you must spend what you have wisely. Narrator Eric Brooks has an august British accent, and he expounds with the authority Bennett himself would have employed. Brooks methodically explains Bennett’s techniques for increasing concentration and self-awareness, both key tools to increase productivity and time efficiency.

Publisher's Summary

This classic personal time-management book, originally published in 1908, has inspired generations of men and women to live deliberate lives. Not just another collection of timesaving tips, this book is more of a challenge to leave behind mundane everyday concerns, focus on pursuing one's true desires, and live the fullest possible life. Reflection, concentration, and study techniques make it easier to accomplish more truly rewarding undertakings than anyone ever dreamed possible.

Looks like Amazon/Audible is breaking away from the classics. This month's freebie is a self-help book. Time will tell if this is a trend or not.

Given when it was originally published, they could be considering it a "classic", too.
