When I'm scoping out the girlies on HotchaChickieBabies.org, I need all the resolution I can get. Especially on New Year's Day.

But are there professional grade tools available? I'm thinking Photoshop or Corel Paint.

I don't think so. For myself, I see a problem with Turbo Tax Premier. (I don't like to do my taxes on line.) And of course the offline printing. Everything else is pretty cool with the new generation of Chrome laptops coming out starting the first of the year. I have to admit I am waffling on my decision to buy a Chromebook. But I am committed to doing something by April when XP is no longer supported and I am going to retire my venerable Desktop. I guess it is possible that I end up with a Windows 8 machine. Woe is me. Woe is me. |

![]() I had to trick my Win 8 machine into thinking it was Win 7 so I could navigate properly. I most thoroughly hate the apps, those stupid squares, the lack of a start button, IE, WMP, etc. |

While there's nothing as extensive as full Photoshop, Pixlr Editor is as powerful on ChromeOS as say Paint.net is on Windows. I use it professionally all the time, for website images and adapting screenshots in work instructions and presentations. So it's 'professional grade' enough for my work, though obviously it may not be enough for professional photographers or graphic artists. Graham |

CES 2014 brings high hopes for Chrome.
Expectations are more subdued. |

This is an interesting leak from CES 2014
This article appears to be translated. Of particular interest to me is the screen, size and resolution. Another point is the weight.
"New Chromebook from Samsung Written by Damir Brodjanac Friday, 03 January 2014 22:55 Published in News According to the latest information coming from Korean sources close to Samsung, early in 2014 we will get a new model of Samsung Chromebook. New Chromebook from Samsung The new model should represent a successor of their Chromebook with Exynos 5250 processor. It will have a screen size of 12 inches and a resolution of 2560x1600 pixels, Exynos 5 Octa 5420 processor, 3 GB of memory and storage space of 16 GB to 32 GB depending on the model. Sources close to Samsung also mentioned USB 3.0 ports and a battery that could withstand between two to seven hours between recharging. All this should be packed in a casing a bit heavier than one pound. The price of this notebook should be between 250 and 300 dollars. Despite the fact that Korean media said that these news came from reliable sources, Samsung for now firmly denies that this will happen. Is it an attempt to preserve the Samsung exclusive for upcoming CES we will see in a few days." Here is the source: http://www.decryptedtech.com/news/ne...k-from-samsung |

We've been discussing this a page or so back. I think the weight is a mis-translation, the other sources are saying a little over a kg, i.e. about the same weight as the current Samsung.
Interesting that they think this will be announced at CES. I think the other sources thought this was for later in the year. Graham |

It's not as though XP will suddenly stop working... However, you could always turn your venerable Desktop into a Linux machine.

While true, all it takes is to find one vulnerability in IE or XP itself, and the machine becomes a walking time bomb for some hacker. Unless, of course, you don't install any more software on it or connect it to the Internet and use it in true stand-alone mode.
