HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

I wish you all a wonderful year ahead filled with health, prosperity, and plenty of time to read [hopefully lots of GREAT reads in 2014]!

Oh, and Blossom, yeah sure, if you want to change mine to Thoughtless, well, you know.... *sigh* LOL. I love them both, but Addicted was so fresh in my mind because I just finished.

Happy New Year all!!

I am happy to read that everyone sounds on the mend in our thread here - that is definitely wonderful to read and a reason to celebrate. Good and positive thoughts and prayers are still coming your way.

I wanted to chime in on goals for the year as well. I've been an avid reader for years but never really with any purpose in mind and definitely no goals! I pretty much read whatever looked good in the bookstore and moved on, though I did try to collect series when I could.

Of course, after discovering calibre, this site and kobo coupons in late 2012, my TBR exploded and I'm suddenly thinking I do need to set up some goals - or at least guidelines! I agree with what many of us have said in that I want to actually start reading my TBR rather than adding to it and along with that comes being a bit more choosy on the freebies and deals - which I have, actually, already been doing. Lately, my buying has been series completion which is an issue in itself, so I'm with Blu2u that I need to quit buying the entire thing until I have read enough to know I will like the author/series.

I know I've mentioned this before, but the challenge group I'm in at GR has actually helped me dig into my TBR and start reading from it. Many of the challenges have you choose books with certain things, themes, character types, etc. so I have to actually study some of my TBR to find books that fit. Over the last 2 months I've read about 10-15 from my TBR that were fairly deep in the list. So, I've made that my goal this year - to compile my challenge lists from my TBR and allowing myself to only purchase 3 books a month to fulfill the challenges. That's around 15+/- books a month in the challenges I join, so that should make a pretty good dent in my TBR....

That's not to say I will only BUY 4 books a month! That's just silly and would be setting up for failure for sure! I just mean that if I can't fulfill a challenge with the books I already own, then I don't need to join it, or think carefully before I do.

So no number of books goal for the year, just a concentrated effort to read my TBR and to be very careful about buying a complete series before knowing how I like it. I'm also considering reading one classic a month. I haven't quite committed to that yet, but it's something I've been thinking about for awhile...Considering it's about 4 hours until ball drop here, I'd better make up my mind!

Again, Happy New Year all!! I hope 2014 brings reading joy and success to you all - as well as joy and health in your everyday life!

When my local library doesn't have a book, a messages comes up and offers to search all of overdrive for the book, and if it's there you can click a button to suggest to your library that they buy that book and add it to their selection. I've only tried it once, but a few months later I was notified via email that the book had been added!

I don't know if this books counts as a romance, but it is primarily a love story (very hard to fit into a category, though).

If you haven't read it yet, I would recommend Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.

It is the first book of the Outlander series, was published 20 years ago I believe, so not new by any stretch of the imagination . The writing and the relationship building in the whole series is so well done, I am eagerly awaiting the 8th book, Written in My Own Heart's Blood, which is due out in June 2014. This book (and the subsequent ones) would be my recommendation.

Happy New Year to you All!

I would consider it epic romance. I want to read it and I hope to get to it this year.

If anyone likes m/m, I would recommend Rough Canvas by Joey W. Hill, also her Vampire Queen series (but this series is paranormal, don't know how you feel about it). All her books are very well written but are also quite heavy BDSM, so if this is not a genre that you feel comfortable with, please do not read them. In addition to being a great author, she is also a very lovely person; I had the opportunity to meet her at AAD Savannah this year.

I have read the first three books in that series, and then I got side tracked by something. I really enjoyed book two, Natural Law, to the point I read it again a couple of weeks later. I like the way the series portrays BDSM, the way she emphasizes the trust part of the equation as well as the mutual respect and satisfaction that comes with it.

Now that you have reminded me, I've wish-listed the rest of the series.

I really don't like you right now Blossom. My TBR pile for what I want to read is growing after you started this discussion.

Or maybe that is why you started this. You wanted to make sure we all had enough to read???

Hello everyone!

I thought it might be nice to delurk for the new year. I stop by often to read and really enjoy this discussion. So going to make an effort this next year to post! I am a long time romance reader so you will see me really looking for those oldie goldies now in ebook. I still have a shelf of paperback keepers too!

I have been thinking off and on all day about what book to suggest as a great read for this next year. Blossom I am going to reach into my keeper shelf to suggest one of those books you thought everyone would come up with.

I read this years ago and just stumbled on it again -
The Fire and the Fury by Anita Mills.

Several great things about this book besides the great story - it is a medieval, it is the start of a series and it is couponable at Kobo.

Most of Anita Mills books sit on my keeper shelf. I will be reading this again in 2014 myself.

One I would have suggested but darn it is expensive in ebook and not couponable -
My Lady Notorious by Jo Beverley
Another off my keeper shelf. The start of the Malloren series and it is Georgian in setting not Regency! So one to watch for to see if the price ever drops. The Malloren series is one of my faves.

Happy New Year to all!

Yep wouldn't want anyone to miss some great books! We actually did something like this last year but we didn't make a list. I think I recommended the same book too.

Darn you got me!

Actually tonight I empty my TBR list and start all over. I do this every year. My reading taste change so much it's just easier to start over each year. I just thought because alot of us had a very disappointing reading year this might help find some good quality reads for 2014. Maybe even find that next WOW book. Last WOW book I read was in 2012.
