Suggestions are so hard without knowing at least a little about people's reading taste. Do they want a comedy, historical, angsty, friends-to-lovers, paranormal, futuristic, etc? What are their reading triggers? Are they as persnickety as me about reading series books in order?

Since many of my favorite books I've read this past year were the latest entries in various series, I'll recommend Kat Latham's Knowing the Score. It's part of a series too, but being the author's debut book at least it's the first book in the series

I do not know about others but I had more bad books than good ones this year.

I finished To Tempt a Scotsman by Victoria Dahl last night and honestly I thought it was boring.

I still stand by mine! Addicted series by Krista & Becca Ritchie. It's definitely romance, but the struggles with addiction are heart-wrenching, and I just cheered for both Lily and Lo so hard, they captured my heart.

Laura Kaye fans, if you've been waiting, then 'Hard As It Gets' is supposed to be on sale for $1.99 [it's geo-restricted for me so double check, and I already bought it when it came out, but no, of course I haven't read it yet although it's high up on my TBR pile]

I just read these this year but they were published 2011, 2012, 2013.

Sherrie Hayes
Slave - http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005EYTG1Q/
Quote:
As president of a not-for-profit foundation, Stephan knows what his future holds and what he wants out of life. All that changes when a simple lunch with his college friend and Mentor, Darren, leads him to buying a slave. Brianna knows only one thing, she is a slave. She has nothing. She is nothing. Can Stephan help Brianna realize that she is much more than just a Slave?
Need - http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008P92IKI/
Quote:
As Brianna comes to terms with the realization that she is no longer a slave, she must figure out what she wants for her life. Forgetting her past isn’t an option. It is an integral part of who she is now, and it will forever shape her view of life. The one thing she knows is that she cannot imagine her life without the man who saved her, but can she be what he needs?

Stephan never imagined falling in love with the woman he rescued, but the thought of her no longer being part of his life is physically painful. The scars from her past continue to haunt her, and he is helpless to stop them. All he can do is try to help her work through the traumas of her past. Can he be everything she needs and help her move on?

The two must figure out how to navigate not only their relationship with each other, but also the outside world. A friend from Brianna’s past shows up where she least expects them, and Uncle Richard continues to enforce his well-meaning agenda to get Brianna more traditional help. As forces, both friend and foe, threaten to tear them apart, Stephan and Brianna have to navigate the turbulent waters and find what they need in each other.
Truth - http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E4OOFM2/
Quote:
For the last two months, Brianna has discovered something she never thought she would again. Hope. After the horror of being Ian’s slave for ten months, a fate she never imagined she’d escape, it feels as if she is living a dream. She has freedom she hadn’t expected to have again, and she wakes up every morning not fearing what the day will bring.

There is also Stephan. The man who saved her from the daily torture she had to endure at the hands of Ian and his friends. The same man who makes her heart race with just the thought of him. Life is good.
Outside forces are determined to conspire against them, however. When Brianna’s father shows up on her doorstep, it sends her world spiraling out of control. He brings with him new information about how Brianna ended up in Ian’s clutches, but will it make a difference? Will Stephan be able to find a way to make Ian pay for all he made Brianna suffer?

As Brianna and Stephan try to find out the truth, their relationship is tested. She is forced to face her past head on and deal with the ugly reality of what happened to her. Will Stephan’s love be enough to see her through her newest challenge, or will the fragile trust they’ve built come crumbling down around them as the truth makes itself known.

It is a series and suppose to end with the next book. Hopefully. They are priced a little high at Amazon.

OK, why didn't anyone tell me Golden Lady by Shirl Henke was back in print and $2.99 for the Kindle edition?

It's a Western, set during the Gold Rush (although it starts before the characters meet). If you like "big secrets" stories, this is a doozie. The heroine has some horrible stuff happen to her when she is younger, and she has to hide it from the hero in order to marry him. Of course, we romance fans know that won't work out well for her.

Amazon says it's 379 pages, but considering how much happens, they must be very busy pages.

I mostly read historical romances and I agree with both of these posts. I have been really happy reading the self-pubbed backlist for formerly trad-pubbed authors, many of whom I find when they make one of the books free. This year has been much better than last for that, I've not had to search so hard to find things to read. I have set a pretty strict upper price limit for myself, so I don't read much of what's brand new until it gets a hefty discount.

I also agree about being tired of Regency England. My favorites are Medievals (either Scottish or English, I love the highland laddies, chivalrous knights, AND the Norman-Saxon struggles lol) and early Americana (westerns, frontier, colonial, etc). Luckily those were popular in the 90s and early 2000s.

I look at the lower reviews, the gushers don't help me at all. I've never been trendy fashion-wise, so I guess it makes sense that I'm not trendy book-wise. Most of the stuff that's wildly popular right now has no appeal at all for me.

I look for reviews that call a novel boring or too full of detail. Reviews that say a book should be a movie or use the word "cracktastic" are a red flag!

I read it last year and loved it!

When I read reviews that call a book boring or too stuck on details, I know it's a good chance I'll like the book. One HR I read this year complained there was too much info about sheep farming... I ate it up! lol

I am currently reading my 123rd book of the year (a HR by Pamela Morsi that I picked up with one of those awesome Kobo coupons), and think I'll finish it by tomorrow night. I read more than twice as many books last year, but we bought a house and packed up the apartment we'd lived in for 10 years earlier this year. Been a little busy!

Probably not going to set any specific goals for next year. I need to get my ebooks organized for sure. I've been organizing my sewing threads while reading this weekend, so it's gone really fast. Not so easy to read while ebook organizing, though.

I'll have to admit I am a bit surprised so far. I thought people would be reaching into their keeper shelves looking for that one romance that is so worn it's falling apart because they read it so much.

Oh that is sooo me when I read complaints that the author is too wordy or describes the world around them too much I know it's something I would probably like Or there is not enough sex in it that's a huge green flag for me.

Aha! There is my recommendation for 2014: Medieval romance, inspired by the Hitchcock movie Rear Window.

Silken Threads, by Patricia Ryan.

Quote:
Graeham Fox comes to London to rescue his overlord’s daughter from her abusive husband, in return for which he is promised her sister’s hand in marriage and a vast estate—quite a prize for a landless soldier who’s never had a home of his own. Attacked and disabled by a broken leg, he rents a room in the humble home of Joanna Chapman, a silk merchant’s widow. Joanna, having learned not to trust handsome, charming devils like Graeham, lets him think her husband is still alive in order to keep him at a distance. Mindful of his mission—and the promised reward—Graeham tries to resist his feelings for Joanna, but the white-hot desire simmering between them cannot be denied.
Her other medieval romances aren't bad either.

Rant.

How hard is it to read house numbers and deliver a package? Well it must be very hard for UPS. According to the tracking number a package I am expecting was delivered to my front door. I walked out my side-door no package, walked to the front door looked out again no package, went to my laundry room door (back of house) looked out no package. Looked in vehicles, looked in yard, nothing. According to UPS package was delivered it is out of there hands.

Complaint filed with Amazon. I would not pour water on UPS to save it.

Oh I love UPS. My driver is awesome! Today he carried in my heavy desk for me. How sweet is that! I did not cough on him once. I was so relieved. It's 40 pounds. I can't wait to get it set up!

I would contact the local depot and ask them to talk to the driver who delivered it. He should be able to tell you where he left it.

Also join UPS My Choice and you can specified where you want your package left and other delivery type instructions. It's free.

I have this book! I really like most of her stuff but I have not read this one. I am looking at Stephanie Rowe you mention. She looks like my kind of Paranormal. Which book should I start with?

I did contact them. That is what they told me. UPS in my area has always had a problem delivering packages. If it is similar to the address that is where they leave it. I honestly do not understand why it is so hard to deliver to the person on the address. If he/she cannot read then they do not need the job.
