I am a fan of many of her book series, especially the "New Species". Her characters are so different, yet manage to be engaging. Sorry to hear about the stroke and I hope that she recovers soon!

Blossom, I hope you're feeling better now, KyBunnies, I really hope you're OK at home and not very in pain, Tattncat, sorry about your dog and glad your hubby is good after the attack (I'm a bit afraid of dogs myself).

And my goals for 2014 are clear: none I fix my challenge in goodreads in a reasonable number for me (200), my TBR grows healthy , I keep on track of my favourite series (or I'm one behind because I'm not in the mood for them), and another things... I flow with my likings at the moment, which change quite frequently so...

Ha, almost pressed the One-Click button

I'm trying to do some meal planning, which I've never done before, and I'm lost. Hubby does majority of cooking at home but I need to take more interest now because my doctor says I need to gain 10-15 pounds (BMI says I'm close to underweight). My weight hasn't shifted (up or down) more than 3 pounds in more than 20 years. I don't know how I'm supposed to do this. I can't eat large portions so I have to break up my eating times (breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner, bedtime snack). All that eating; my stomach revolts at the thought of it

Loosheesh, sorry about your problem. I don't have it (the opposite either, but I try to control myself), but I had to eat a lot everyday... *shudder*

You can have some of my fat! I can spare 20 0r 50 pounds no problem.
You want to gain weight eat like we here in the south do. You will be at your weight in no time. It's not healthy eating but it will pack the pounds on you. Google Southern cooking and you will find all kinds of fattening recipes. You don't have to eat large portions either believe me you'll gain weight just smelling the stuff.

Can you work out? Building muscle makes for healthy weight gain, and your body will eventually start to demand more fuel to build the muscle tissue with, which hopefully means you'll be able to eat more. Your doctor should be able to get you in contact with a nutritionist or other expert in diet and nutrition who can help you find out what to eat that is high in calories without being unhealthy for you. If calories was all that mattered, you could meet your goal easily by just drinking lots of hard alcohol every day... but that would have some rather unhealthy side effects to the weight gain, that your doctor probably would not want for you.

These are my purchases for the last two weeks not alot. Not much has screamed buy me buy me lately.

I am reading Home For Christmas by Patrica Potter which is a Harlequin and quite good but the OCR errors are really bad on this. Harlequin should be ashamed for releasing this without proof reading usually on the Harlequin Treasury there are always few mistakes but this one is quite bad.

I read The Man Who Saved Christmas by Marisa Carroll (3.5 stars) Very good and needs a sequel that was never written.

I am feeling somewhat better. My fever broke yesterday and now it's like I am in phase two of this. Since yesterday I went through two jumbo boxes of tissues and sleeping is near impossible. I've used up my alotted time for being sick with hubby. He is always griping about me laying around so now I have to take care of myself and somehow cook for myself without falling down. However when he was sick who took care of him for four days? Men! I haven't had a meal since December 24th I am just now starting to eat soup that is not clear broth so I don't have much energy to do anything.

On a happy note I did take a shower today. I couldn't breathe much while doing it and nearly passed out but I am clean which makes me happy.

Butter, butter, and more butter. It's the secret ingredient that makes restaurant food taste so good. Just a few tablespoons of butter each day will add a couple hundred calories without adding bulk to your meals and filling you up. Add cheese to everything for even more fatty goodness. Eat nuts for your snacks - they are caloric time bombs, both nutritious and fattening - 2 birds with one stone.

Also, if you don't already do this, start lifting weights. It seems like that is counterintuitive and would make you lose weight, but actually, it's just the opposite - it builds muscle, which weighs more and is healthier than fat. It should also have the added benefit of increasing your appetite (but if you do start lifting, also start eating more protein to help build that extra muscle).

It actually does have that effect if you are overweight and need to lose fat.

If only it was this easy! I don't much like fattening foods (unless it's desserts ), plus doctor says it must be 'healthy' pounds.

I never tried muscle building, but I can only do low impact exercises. I contacted a dietitian; we were supposed to meet tomorrow but I had to change my appointment at the last minute. I can only see her on Mondays so hopefully I'll get that done first Monday in the new year.

I'm not a finicky eater but I have a sensitive stomach, and I get that 'full' feeling very quickly so I can't eat large portions, which is why the doctor advised that I break up my meal times in order to eat more. We generally eat 'healthy' stuff (no fried foods, little to no meat, no sodas, chips etc) at home so I'm just not used to eating fattening stuff. Most times I get to eat bacon/sausages only when I travel for work and eat breakfast at a hotel. If I do this for more than two days, my body (stomach actually) starts to revolt and scream for cereal (which is my regular breakfast). My husband doesn't eat pork, beef or chicken so that almost never gets cooked at home. He'll prepare it for me if I want it but I've always thought it made little sense to be constantly preparing two sets of meals.

I actually love butter but I eat little bread so ... Everybody tells me if I ate more bread I wouldn't have any trouble

I must look into lifting weights, though.
