Could Calibre remember its selection when closed and re-opened
I'd find it helpful if Calibre were to remember the selection that was current when last it was closed, and re-open with the same selection.

Are you talking about the E-book VIEWER (V)?
It does open on the same page, and close to the same paragraph. (Paged mode: Scroll icon depressed) |

No, I mean the library list itself.
I have some 12 000 books, and when I am working my way through the list applying changes, I often have to leave the job unfinished, and come back to it later. If I could close Calibre with the last book I work on highlighted, it would be good if Calibre were to open at that book when I come back to it. |

You could do this now using virtual libraries.
I have a custom column named quality that I update when I process a book. An unprocessed book is blank or false. When I type #quality:false into the seachbar it gives me just those books unprocessed. Next create a virtual library using the current search and click show virtual library as tabs. You would then have two tabs under the searchbar. One for all books and one for the unprocessed books. Then you simply click the quality tab (or whatever you want to call it) and the book should be at the top. Helen |

Another option, if you sort by the 'Modified' column, in descending order, that book should be at the top. There's also a Prefs - Tweak option (called 'Specify columns to sort the booklist by on startup') which allows you to set a sort sequence to be used every time you start calibre.

Thanks for the interesting suggestions. I shall certainly experiment with them,
...but I'd still like the option to re-open Calibre at the same part of the list as was visible when I closed it. It's a fairly common feature of software packages these days. |

Maybe I'm an exception, but I rarely shut calibre down; it normally sits in the system tray, so mostly out of sight, but when I do want it, a single click, and it's back exactly as it was when it was hidden.

Maybe a BIG donation from you [10k or more] might help convince Kovid to think along your lines.

@unboggling
You'll notice that in my third post, I modified, and I think simplified, my suggestion to just re-opening at the same part of the list as was open when Calibre was closed. I think this would have fewer potential traps for the unwary. I'd be happy to see Kovid add this to his to-do list. |
