sticky problem perhaps...

The book list is still not usable. Now (3.0.1) it takes 3 seconds to turn a page. One page has 5 books, which is ridiculous. I have 120 pages.

they should bring back dictionary into book menu (since v3.0.0 (Glo) it's not available in pdf books). While reading books in English, which is not my mother tongue, sometimes i really would see a definition of a word.

I don't understand why kobo doesn't display the battery state during sleep mode and power off mode when the unit isn't plugged in, surely it would be easy to grab a snap shot of the current battery status and display it ?. no need for dynamic display of battery charge sate in sleep mode or power off mode.

here's why, if I want to take the unit to the beach I don't want to switch it on and delve into menus to find out what the battery status is, grab and go so user friendly, no ?.

The problem with that idea is that the battery's charge will gradually "evaporate" - leave it unattended for too long and it could completely drain. That means that either the displayed status is going to become increasingly inaccurate or it needs to "wake up" once in a while, just enough to fetch the new status.

Not that it's a bad idea - it's just not quite as simple as you appear to think.

I think most people would know if they hadn't used the reader for a while that the power might be down.

I think that displaying the battery status is a good thing on the readers that do it.

AFAIK there is some polling even in sleep mode and power off mode, so vaguely possible a battery low warning could be displayed if appropriate. Not likely but probably could be done.

I have to agree with Rev. Bob. It seems like a simple thing, but it likely wouldn't be so straight forward in it's implementation. I think you give most people too much credit on this one. I can guarantee you within a month of it being implemented there would be multiple people whose devices wouldn't turn on that would need to be convinced to charge it because "... but it shows as 3/4 charge!". This is especially true with people that are new to e-ink and still wrapping their head around the fact that the screen still displays with a dead battery.

The same ones who stare stupidly at their toaster wondering why it won't toast when it isn't plugged in Done that myself I think.

And of course Kobo has a long list of unresolved issues, so I am sure it is best not to get them started on new ones.

I don't do that with our toaster. The bread doesn't stay down if the toaster isn't plugged. Of course, I push it down several times before it occurs to me what is wrong

I don't know if it's firmware, but I wish the lowest light setting on the Kobo Glo would be a little less bright. When I'm in complete darkness it still hurts my eyes.

Lithium-ion batteries have a low self-discharge rate (<10%/month, often less) so that I think the best is to do nothing to help discharging them in power off mode. Theoretically, a powered-off freshly recharged Kobo should be able to stay unused for one year without getting the battery out of service by a total discharge.

It seems to be that Kobo for some reason didn't enable our reader to browser new books to buy in a different language. This is extremely disappointing and makes it next to impossible to buy books from the reader in our language.

My dad is considering returning the device because this crucial feature is missing. Please fix it as soon as possible! The fix should be simple - the website already allows to pick among 8 languages to browser books in.

From what I've seen, it seems to me that the books are displayed by languages. For example, when searching for an author I'll see first the French books, then say the Spanish ones, then the Italian ones... It's cumbersome but they're there, with room for improvement

I have quite some non-DRM books and I would really like a feature that would allow me to synchronize a folder of non-DRM books with Kobo Aura over Wi-Fi. Is it already possible? Am I missing something? Because this looks quite basic to me.

There's not really a feature for that, so you're not overlooking it. The Kobo Desktop software is intended to handle that, and I'm pretty sure calibre will do it, but both of those use a "library" rather than "folder" model.

One thing you CAN do, if you're really desperate for such a feature, is use the Kobo browser in conjunction with a NAS unit. I picked up a SanDisk Wireless Flash Drive and use it that way, but it has to be connected to my home Wi-fi network for the Kobo to be able to find it. However, once I got that set up, I can browse to the WFD's local IP address, sift through to the proper folders, and tap a link to download an ebook. The Kobo will confirm that I want to download the book, then save it to internal memory.

More commonly, though, I use the WFD with my iPad. I was trying to find a reference the other day, so I switched the WFD on, used Safari to find the book, and opened it in iBooks for a quick search. I also use the app as a download folder when I'm surfing, so I can download non-DRM'd ebooks immediately instead of having to remind myself to do so later. That's particularly useful if I'm shopping at a bookstore I don't frequent often, like for Angry Robot's sale.

I do wish the Kobo wasn't so locked down in this respect, but at the end of the day, it's an e-reader, not a tablet. I wind up shopping on my iPad, downloading to one app that lets me rename files, sending 'em from there to the WFD app's download folder, uploading those files to a folder on the WFD itself, then using USB to copy the books over to my Kobo and my master backup. Yes, it's more of a runaround than I'd like - but it's less work than it sounds like, and it's far easier than my old method of emailing myself links so I could do all the downloading on my laptop.
