What's the problem?

I've gorged on Forgotten Realms books this month using huge Kobo codes up to 85%. I know I'll own all those books anyway, one day, so I'll go as much of them at prices between €0.72 and €1.75 while the getting was good. In the long run, this will save me A LOT of money.

Well, a big chunk of my purchasing this year has been conversions - transforming ent corpses into electrons. Whenever I see a deal on that, I pounce, because it's far easier to find books on a hard drive than in boxes that are in storage.

Even so, while I'm grumbling about the Big Five no longer being promo-eligible at Kobo, I must admit that the resulting lack of backlist buying has been good for my wallet.

This year has been the first year I bought more ebooks than pbooks. All the Kobo coupons were just way too good to pass up. I doubt I'm going to buy more ebooks this year so in total I got 84 ebooks (135 counting all the omnibus editions and collections as separate books).

My biggest problem is that I'm running out of wishlist books that can be used by the coupon at Kobo. If it wasn't for the endless Morland Dynasty, I wouldn't need any codes at this point. I haven't even read those books (purchased primarily for my Mom). I will continue to make use of specials up until the end of the year, but after that it will be my new lower budget. Surprise surprise, I was able to pick up Inferno for $1.99 yesterday at B&N. Mom will start reading that tomorrow (she's a Dan Brown fan).

I've just bought my 75th ebook for December. The number of great offers this month has been astonishing. A reminder that next year I really do need to wait for special offers, and not use up my quota every month. $123.16 spent in December! (Just $1.65/book! Wow!)

Two more days, and I start my $40/month (average) regime. It'll be tough!

Tough? Nah. Just don't buy a book the entire year, and spend $480 in december. At $1.65 a book, you'll be able to get 291 books at once.

From posts in this and other threads, it appears that you've influenced several of us to adopt the $40 monthly goal. I spent so much with the astonishing Kobo codes that I could hardly even think of anything I wanted to buy this month. I was even almost tired of buying books.

May this malaise hangover from the Kobo feeding frenzy last all 2014.

I don't regret what I've bought, as I got many terrific books at terrific prices, but it was virtual insanity. A quick look at my Kobo accounts shows 136 books bought since mid-September. That's more than I can read in a year. And I hit the buy button at a few other venues, too.

However, I must admit that if another multi-use megacoupon coincides with Agency books being couponable again, well, my resolve will be dealt a mortal blow.
