Wine works on Chrubuntu now. I use it.
Don't know if it would handle the task at hand, but I think TB was seeing how he could get along with the official Chrombook/ChromeOS way of doing things.

I think TB means WYSIWYG editing on Mobileread (see above), which isn't supported on the Chrome browser, and hence not on the Chromebook.

My wife doesn't frequent this august establishment but I will try to remember to check myself.

One question. Is the problem the little faces and bold and italics.
I know that you can put those things in yourself.

,,, bold. i for italics. etc. Like the old days!

Boy, that didn't work.

Ok. [letter-b],,,[/letter-b] bold, letter-i for italics.

See up-thread, posts 323 to 326. Mobileread has a full WYSIWYG editing feature that works with Internet Explorer and Firefox, but not Chrome. Hence it's not available on the Chromebook, and TB misses it big time when editing posts with lots of bold and coloured text.

What's odd is that the feature seems to be available in Android. I just compared the editing options in Firefox in Windows 7, Mountain Lion and Android 4.3, and the WYSIWYG toggle in the upper right-hand corner worked for all three.

Forgive my unfamiliarity with Chrome, but isn't there a version of Firefox for that OS?

Not yet. It may be possible for alternate browsers to be developed as packaged apps, I think, though.

You really Think Google will allow alternative browsers on Chrome? I have my doubts, but I could of course be wrong.

Well, I would have thought Google would allow it, but if they don't allow "offline" printing, maybe not.

Our second printer in the house went out, and I will be getting a HP e-printer that can be used without a Windows computer hooked up to it.

Ok. On a 710, 4GB, 320GB SSD,

no problem with icons.

www.cnet.com

http://www.zdnet.com

no problem with urls using tools.

www.google.com

no problem typing in urls directly.

no problem entering image urls.

Attachements seem to work. (see funny cat)

A rudimentary examination looks ok.
I didn't have time to delve into the previous posts.

You're missing the point. I can edit all of that, but it becomes a nightmare with posts full of color, bolding, and URLs.

The next two posts contain a sample from the audiobook thread I routinely edit every day or two. I'm only posting a small portion of what I see (~12%). In standard mode, it's a nightmare to edit; but not so in WYSIWYG mode.

Standard Editing - the only mode Chrome supports

note: this is the best approximation of what I see and have to deal with. This is only a 12% sample of that post; try dealing with 100% of it.

Well since I didn't know there was another editing mode until this thread, this is what I "deal" with all the time. Really it's not that hard though I don't usually festoon my posts with so much formatting.
