The bean bag doesn't look very comfortable for reading (and I don't want one with nails!); a rocking chair sounds nice, but I don't think it would rock on carpet. A lazy-boy recliner sounds like a possibility, but aren't they always leather? I don't like leather furniture. As for the cats, they've purloined the lounge chair I'd intended to use; it's now covered in cat hair and some cat cushions! The 'intention' is to keep the cats out of the study once all the decorating's finished.
Graham, I noticed that the OP of the other thread had the problem of being tall whereas I'm just over five feet. Please keep the ideas coming. Something comfortable but which won't turn into a bed. Thanks lots. |

What's wrong with a little cat hair.

It's fine in the right place: on the cats! I also need to buy a vacuum which will deal with stuff. Cats are wonderful, but I wish they'd clean up the fur they leave everywhere!

That bean bag is very comfortable for sitting in while reading, the high back on it makes it much better than a normal bean bag. And as an added bonus, it's leather so doesn't attract pet hair!
Thankfully I don't have the same problem with sitting on my pets as emonti8384, you do end up a little low on the ground though, so I did once suffer when my dog ran into my room and jumped up on me while I was sitting reading..... he's a 30+ Kg labrador and I'm just glad I managed to move my Kindle out of the way. ![]() You mean that's not what they are?! ![]() |

Fur balls are another sneaky way of distributing cat fur!
Would love to see some pics of some comfortable reading chairs, preferably not torture devices please. |

Ikea has the Poeang chair. I wish I could fit it into my small flat, it gives you an instant "aaaah!" feeling (do try the footrest that comes with it). The other reading chair threads mention it as well, and do caution that the more heavy users may reduce its longevity. I think it was suggested to use a cushion to perfectly hold your head, yet I do see no need for that.

I noticed the suggestions for that chair and its drawbacks, not too expensive either, but the head-position issue lead to a decision to see if something better was suggested.
I'm not a heavy-weight, but the chair seems to have a flimsy frame which means that I'd have to find another reading chair in a few years. Mmm.... something better, maybe? |

I am saving to buy this loveseat (or something very similar). Very cushy with a matching ottoman.
I've tried recliners and I guess I'm just not a recliner person. I really, really, like overstuffed chairs, but it's hard to find one that I like and feel comfy in with a fabric that isn't going to be destroyed by the cats in 2 months. |

I went with a fairly modern chaise lounge, somewhat similar in shape to this but a bit sleeker:
![]() While it takes up a fair amount of space, it's the most popular seat in the house...for both people and pets. It's been nicknamed "the comfy chair". I had it in my living room for a time and never got to use it; it was always occupied. I finally moved it into my office, which is off limits to everyone else, and that way it's reserved for just me. Except for my evil tuxedo cat, who's pretty sure it's hers. ![]() |

I've been wondering what fabric is least-susceptible to cat damage. I have a micro-fibre overstuffed recliner that isn't doing too badly, but we are shopping for a second chair. Leather is out, based on the current appearance of the couch.

Maybe I'm lucky, but that's worked through seven cats and 20+ years. My last remaining cat prefers regular carpet pile, so she's pretty easy to accommodate with virtually any commercial scratching post. |
