Hi: FWIW, you probably mean HTML Tidy, not Pretty Print. All Pretty Print does is add whitespace, in CODE view, to make it easier to read the code. Nothing it does should affect the actual book. Hope that helps. Hitch |

Usually true. But when that "white-space: pre;" attribute gets inlined or linked externally, the whitespace changes that Pretty Print makes actually can affect the rendered book view.

How does that occur? I don't think I've ever seen it happen here, so I'm genuinely asking. Hitch |

I'll try to put together a quick epub as an example.
OK: Make sure to have all cleaning turned off upon opening/saving and see how the code renders in Book View. Then change Sigil to automatically Pretty Print the same ePub upon opening it and note how it renders. I don't know if it has any adverse effect in ADE or other readers, but that attribute can sure create funky results within Sigil's Book View (not that anyone should trust Book View, of course, but I've seen it trip people up before). Well, considering the issues "white-space: pre;" causes, it should be avoided like the plague...

Absolutely!
But I vaguely rememer one of the iSomething editors wedging it in by default. Perhaps that's been fixed in later versions, though. |

Well, I'll be damned. Holy *&^%$#@! I guess as I don't use PP or HT, I've never seen this. It absolutely affects the view in a reader. Damn. Thanks, Diap. I doubt that I ever woulda seen that. Hm. Hitch |

I'd say it's pretty rare. Just one to keep in the back of your mind for whenever someone is at the end of their rope trying to figure out where some extra white-space is coming from (and whenever someone swears on a stack of bibles that the line-spacing in code view is affecting how things render).
