Its only Tuesday in the US, right? Don't other countries release dates vary?

I always heard it was a good medium between when various stores get new deliveries (a Monday delivery only store would miss the new release for the week) and ensuring that the first week of sales for the released product would include an entire weekend (including any Monday-holidays).

May 27, 2014 falls on the Tuesday following 2 long weekends in May in North America. The Victoria Day weekend in Canada falls on May19 and the Memorial Day weekend in the US falls on May 26. Perhaps this has something to do with it?
