A Partridge in a Pear Tree (novella) US DE by Amanda McCabe. It was first published in A Regency Christmas IX by Signet in 2002. As far as I remember, it was wacky and charming! Here's the link to the AAR review, where the reviewer liked it best in the collection.

Regarding the discussion above about the relative scarcity of interesting freebies of late, I have noticed that too. What is further annoying is that for quite a number of freebies geographical restrictions apply.

On the other hand, I am perfectly happy to pay for a good backlist ebook. If I own the paper copy, obviously not as much as for the new book, but still. I am wary to try out new authors though if I have to pay list price and only do so if they either wildly fascinate me or come highly recommended. So I would think it is still in an author's interest to offer books at a bargain price occasionally to attract new readers. And I am very happy to see these books pointed out here!

Okay, Harlequin seems to have fixed things for the freebie that wasn't working a few days ago. I did have to enter a CC in order for the checkout to process, but this time it didn't give errors after doing so. It says eBooks must be paid by CC so I don't know if selecting the bill me later option will work so you don't have to enter a CC or not. Anyway...

What a nightmare of a site! It wouldn't work in Firefox either! I had to use IE and put in my Credit Card.

Fern Michaels old books are finally starting to be released as ebooks, but I'm not about to pay the 6.99 - 5.49 prices that they want for books that were first released in the late 70s!
