I'm sure it would but 1. Why would you want to? and 2. It wouldn't change the annoying nags when the wifi is off. Not only do you have to deal with that but it takes a significant amount of time to make any collections adjustments, well over 3 minutes per book. Even though you tell it not to connect it is as if it is still trying to connect to remember the collection information. I tried to add the same book with the wifi on and it took a few seconds when the wifi is on. Amazon really didn't think that through, did it never occur to them that there are users who are not always in a wifi zone or who pay for usage.

Hmmm I'm not getting that error. I just bought a SQL 2012 book from O'Reilly last night and added via "Send to Kindle" using my MacAir. A min or so later, it appear on the cloud. Then I added to my IT collection without issues. |

Once you add it to the cloud it is no longer a sideloaded book, so the problem would of course go away.

Sorry if this is a silly question, but what's the problem with that? It's actually convenient to have a copy on the cloud, in my opinion, instead of locally. You can lose all your side loaded ebooks if you also lose your Kindle or something happened to the hardware, or the copy you may have at home. Besides keeping a copy locally, I always send my Oreilly books to the cloud. They are there ready for me to be downloaded if needed. |

Lucky for me I don't use collections on my PW. I use them on my Sonys and love them because they interface with Calibre so well. I would use them on the Kindle, if they were easy to use and manage with Calibre. I don't have any interest in having my collections/side loaded documents in the cloud. I'm perfectly happy sideloading most of my books through Calibre and letting Calibre be my book manager.
IMO, Amazon has made the collections difficult to use on their readers--especially on the new PW2 with update--unless you use them exactly like they want you to use them--no side loading, no sharing of accounts/multiple Kindles with different collections. I also think it's silly that all the books not currently on your Kindle, but in a "cloud collection" show up in the collection under device view. I wouldn't like that at all. And from everything I've read--there is no way to manage a cloud collection except through a device? If it were truly a "cloud collection", I would think there would be some sort of interface to access my "cloud" directly to add/delete/rename collections and choose which Kindle(s) I want which collections to show on. It'll be interesting to see what the next firmware brings. I'd love to be able to use collections on my KPW2 to place my books in series. But for now, I'm using Calibre plugboards to put the series information in the book title and that works okay. |

And I am not worried about losing my books, I have so many backup copies along with two other cloud drives that they are on, the entire Eastern seaboard would have to be destroyed for me not to be able to get to them. And if that happens, reading won't be a priority. |

It's not so much having WiFi on all the time but the Kindle should be for travel. What about those who are going camping for a week or on a long car ride? This is definitely something people need to point out to Amazon. By expecting people to be connecting all the time the Kindle loses to it's competition.
If I am going on a trip I'm not going to take something that nags at me. I am going to take a eReader that works well without WiFi. |

Never recieved WiFi off messages.

I don't understand what messages you are getting. I have never received a single message. Maybe some setting controls this. Both of my units are paid not to show ads. Maybe those, which show ads, get the messages. |

![]() Cheers, at least I've managed to get a laugh out of it..... delightful, yes quite! Quote:
My problem is that I do, on occasion, buy books from Amazon and send them directly to my Kindle, so simply avoiding the firmware update isn't really an option, I'm going to end up with it eventually, and when I do, it's going to be a real pain. This is it exactly, Amazon have made it unnecessarily annoying unless you use your Kindle in a set way. If there isn't a change made in a future firmware update, I guess the only answer is just not to use any collections? Even then, if that works, I'll probably be fine since I rarely have more than 20-30 books on my Kindle, but not much use to many others who need collections. |
