Stylus for Glo
My skin seems to be very prone to leaving fingerprints on screens. I've been playing around with my Glo and the touch doesn't seem as responsive as my T1. I tried using the stylus that came with the T1 and it's a very hit and miss affair. Not sure if this is a limitation with the Glo since the T1 worked fine with the stylus that came with it.
Does anyone use a stylus with their Glo and if so any specific ones you can recommend? |

Try using something thicker than tip of your T1 stylus up to about 1/4 inch diameter.
Pencil eraser works good. Soft plastic handle end of DenTek interdental brush about 3" overall length including brush cover. Water color brush about 1/4 inch diameter at bristles. |

Thanks. I suspected the thickness might be the issue. I'll see what I can track down over here.

For page turning, I believe the reader doesn't rely on pressure on the screen, but rather breaking the infra-red beams that are 'shot' from under the bezel just at the surface of the screen. If you are very careful, you can make the page turn by lowering your finger until it barely touches the screen. When your finger breaks the infra-red beam, the page turns.
So what you need is stylus that is not thin and pointy. You need something thicker to replace a human finger. Treadlightly's ebay stylus will work well. If your were in Canada, I would tell you to pick one up at Dollarama. |

I think I found something similar on a local site that's like eBay. These look about the same.

Capacitive Stylus are not needed but they will work with new Aura 7" and most any tablet touch screen. The trend for future Kobo and Kindle readers they will have capacitive touch screens.

I seem to remember someone saying that they used a Q-tip, and certainly no problem if you lose it, nor can it scratch the screen.

I ended up ordering a Kensington Virtuoso Touch stylus. I opted for it since the brand name product should hopefully be better quality and I should get it buy Tuesday.
The stylus will come in handy with both my tablet and Glo. Just hope the tip is big enough. Can't seem to find any specifications on the dimension, but from Youtube videos it looks OK. |

I've tried that and it works somewhat, but still not as responsive as I'd like. I need a stylus for my tablet in any case so might as well kill two birds with one stone.

I don't think it will matter much what stylus you use because it's an infrared touchscreen, not capacitive. And the Kobo Glo is not near as responsive as the Sony readers, so again, a stylus won't change that.
I've noticed different firmware versions can make a difference. I used to use 2.5.1 and at least 50% of the time I had to use multiple swipes to turn a page and up to 4x for a page. When I switched to 2.4.0 for another reason, I found I rarely need to swipe a page a 2nd time. Taps work better than swipes on the Kobo, but it's just an unnatural thing for me, I prefer the swipe. And if I'm holding the reader in my left hand, I can't use a tap to turn the page. |

Nice collapsible stylus is lip stick if you don't mind cleaning off the marks.

Just some feedback. I received my Kensington Virtuoso stylus an hour or so ago. Tested it out for the last 10 minutes and it seems to work very well with the Glo. Great for page turns using taps, and surprising it increased the accuracy of selecting & highlighting text. I never could get it quite right using my finger.
Definitely worth it, and now I don't have to worry about smudges on the screen. |
