Whenever my mom would have a party, he'd wait until everyone had gone into the family room to dance ... then he'd get up on the coffee table in the front room and start drinking everyone's drinks.

The next morning, I would usually find him with a severe hangover on my mom's bed. Generally he'd be splayed out (head down) on one of her pillows and would meow mournfully through most of the morning.

I would do my best to get him rehydrated (you can't give cats aspirin or most other analgesics), and usually move him to my room (where he could be in the dark and quiet with no one bothering him).

I guess he just liked the dizzy feeling. The reason I think this might have been the case is that his favorite game was to have me spread out a blanket, then he'd go sit in the middle of the blanket, then I would gather up all the corners, and spin the blanket around my head several times. When I put it down, he'd stumble around for a minute or so, and then go sit in the middle of the blanket. I would give him another ride ... and we would repeat this process until he decided it was enough.

As an adult, if I didn't know he actually liked it, I would think it was abuse myself. But, that boy was an alcoholic who loved carnival rides.
NO WAY!!

For some reason I now have the image of a tabby cat staggering across the yard to the back fence where several other felines are waiting. "Yo, dudes, that was an awesome party last night. You should have been there. I got sooo smashed. Woke up this morning...felt like I'd gone a couple of rounds in the dryer."

I knew a cat once who liked to have a ribbon tied to his tail, which he would then chase until he was too dizzy to stand. If the ribbon fell off before he got to this point, he'd stand over it and cry until someone tied it to his tail again.

The really odd thing is that this was normally a cat that was frightened of almost everything and everyone.

Make it a big orange tabby, with white socks and bib, and you've got him nailed.

This was also the cat that took on a really vicious dog to save a little doggie friend of his. He was one tough MFing cat.

He also stowed away on a friend's boat and was stuck out at sea and then in quarantine in Hawaii for one hell of a long time before he came home.

I miss him to this day.

With cats, you just never know what you're going to end up with. I certainly never do.

My attitude toward cats was pretty much summed up in a recent SNL "Weekly Update" episode, reporting on a woman who spent $17,000 on a surgery for her cat. The gag was, "the cat repaid the woman by briefly maintaining eye contact".

That is a funny bit. My cats (or some of them, rather) have shown me a lot of love and loyalty over the years ... but I doubt my experience is the norm.

As for what I'm doing right now .... well, I worked my butt off today, and as a result, I am lying in bed with more back pain than I can tolerate. So, I'm gonna go rummage around in the bathroom and see if there are any serious pain killers left in there and maybe read a while.

Sitting here cursing the fact that computer device manufacturers are all too cheap and or lazy to include a USB cable with their products.

And trying to get uysed to an ergonomic keyboard.

And NOT using my new CanoScan 8800F, which comes complete without USB cable. (Back to BestBuy.)

Seventeen pavlovas? A 1958 Plymouth Fury? The New York Mets? A bag of dynabolts?

I am waiting for heavy spring rain to ease, so that I can go shopping for a new home phone, and some food and drink for the weekend.

Cheers,
Marc

I think we had about 3" in the last 24 hours. Last year, in August, they had about 24" in one 24 hour period (a short drive up North Shore beach, I think they had 27").
