For those of you in the USA that missed this or had issues like myself, there is a store called Family Christian that sells some kobo products and they have a 40% off online only coupon (Christmas40}. I was going to give up on kobo completely, but saw this and ordered a Kobo glo for about $88. They had them in stock at a store near me and I was going to just go there to get it, but saw the coupon and that they had in store pick up so EVEN better.
Don't know if they will use store stock to fill my order or ship from their fulfillment center, but here's hoping I get mine soon and that I don't regret not abandoning Kobo {fingers crossed} Full disclosure , I have never used the store before so I do not know what their shipping time or CS is like but can't be worse than kobo's was....can it ![]() |

Would love to start playing with this when my boss leaves for the day and not when I get off...it's holiday slow and I wanna play - but I guess I can finally start the end of the last season of dexter instead lol

I think im liking my so far. It took a while to get the shelves the way I want, but now that I figured out the trick Im happy.
There seems to be a slight lag when changing screens or making a selection, but I don't see it as much when changing pages in the book. And I don't think its going to be enough of a bother to cancel out the benefit of now having shelves and a light (NST user). I told my daughter I would keep the NST around as a communal reader until it conks out completely so we will have both. I'm still playing too so let me know what you think or if you find anything interesting. |

Glad to see some Glo love here. It has been a very nice, stable reader for me, such a good size and weight, so easy to manage with Calibre. I keep the wifi off, thus never sync, and prefer the firmware version 2.6.1. Also I have only 6 pages of shelves. I have experimented with having more, and that will slow things down, if you get too many shelves. For me it is better to have fewer shelves, but I can put hundreds of books on a shelf, and that doesn't slow things down. Also the search function works very well, to find books that you don't have on any shelf, especially.

ok...I have shelves I specify (TBR, Kids, YA) but decided to use the series option to give it a go, especially since I cannot just to a 'folder' browse like on the NST and some others (or at least I haven't found it yet). So far there are 11 pages of shelves, not sure if I like it yet or not - maybe that's the lag. Curious, why do you like 2.6.1 better and what really is the difference between it and 3.1.1? |

Another thing I didn't like, they took away the slider bar at the bottom for browsing through shelves and pages, and replaced it with something far less usable (to me). I love the slider. I can just tap it at an approximate place to jump forward through a few pages. There were some menu changes, too, that I didn't care for. Once I decide I like something the way it is, I don't want it changed. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" But the big thing is the slider. I have a shelf with 252 books on it, for example. If I set it to view by author, and I want something that starts with "p" one tap takes me there, instead of having to page through. I have 6 pages of shelves, and it is taking about 6 seconds to bring them up at the moment. It may be indexing some books I put on earlier, though, if so, it will drop a few seconds. |

I loaded a few books (epub and mobi) on both using Calibre and all is well. Boy, they are fast compared to my 301+. I'm going to use them for a few weeks then decide on which one I want to keep. I'll sell the other. I must say the Glo's screen is a bit sharper than the Aura's. Not amazingly sharper, but it is slightly sharper. To me, both devices seem equally fast. So far so good!
