Yes! I was slowly trying to learn to use Sigil, but Edit Book is much more stream-lined. Thank you!

Edit Book is (almost) a one-to-one copy of Sigil in the way it's used. If you mean that it's more streamlined in the sense that you don't need to export books, then edit them, and re-import/replace them again, then you're right of course ![]() |

I actually didn't realize that we'd lost support for Sigil until after I had downloaded and checked out the book editor in calibre. I was pleased to see it and hoped to spend a bit more time getting to know it in the future. I did, however, fall back to Sigil simply because it's my comfort zone.
I used to occasionally go to the Sigil forums in the hopes of prevailing upon smarter code monkeys (said as a term of endearment, not an epithet) than me with Regex expressions and had just done that when I realized that it's not being supported anymore. I am very grateful that you have picked up the ball, Kovid. I use calibre and Sigil more than nearly any of my other software and, like others above, it is a rare thing for me not to at least make a few tweaks to a book. I also lay a lot of books out from scratch or near scratch. I am grateful to continue to have a reliable piece of software with which to do these tasks. I'm still gonna need hella help with regex. hahahaha |

The "open with" calibre plug-in enabled opening books directly from calibre and working on the version that is in calibre all ready. There was no need to use those multiple steps when using Sigil with calibre.

Oh My! You have been missing out on a lot of easy access.
OW PI you can have a second (3rd..) Viewer set for a format Edit the cover used in Calibre with you editor of choice Send it (the format) to the editor of choice. This is Sigil for me (which still has heavily used features that are yet to come) |

You can only do very limited 'edit' operations there (Split), clicking the will 'sync' the edit (CV) screen fairly close |

Kovid has already said he will probably never implement that, as it's a lot of work to get right, and editing in WYSIWIG can make you accidentally remove underlying code, breaking the book (I've done it in Sigil...). A preview pane is fine; edit code on one side, immediately see the result on the other side ![]() A great benefit of this approach is that you will actually learn what the code you are changing does. Strangely enough, when using WYSIWYG, you're actually working blind, changing code you can't see. Very nice for a beginner, but after a book or two changing the code directly (using regex, and other nice stuff) becomes way faster. Last edited by Katsunami; 12-15-2013 at 08:29 PM. |
