Have you seen it, held it or used it? I have a T1 and I think it's a great improvement over the T1. If the OP hasn't had one then it's a terrific reader! If they already had one and were concerned with finances, then maybe but they've not had one before.

Congrats to you Rosenivy!! I have a T3 and love it. I prefer the one without the cover but I'm super happy with mine. Enjoy yours. I know you're going to love it. Happy readings and Happy Christmas to yourself.

Yes, and I think they're overpriced, especially for someone who was concerned about a price point far lower than that. But I'm glad the OP is happy with their reader.

Sony's have always been higher than the rest of the market. It isn't new. I still feel it's a big improvement over the T1. I paid $170 for the T1 and $130 for the T3. In Canada. I'm super happy with that price drop I'll tell ya!!

I haven't handled a T3, but I like the look of it better than the T1, which I have owned.

Wow, you could have bought a kindle for 69$, try it for a month and return it if you didn't like it, but instead you went for the most overpriced reader in the market?
The irony.

I was going to deign not to respond to this, initially believing that you were merely attempting to unnecessarily agitate me, but I've chosen to give you the benefit of the doubt:

There is no Kindle available here in Australia for $69. Furthermore, no stores here have one-month change-of-mind return policies. I assume, therefore, that you're suggesting that I purchase an ereader directly from Amazon: the shipping is exorbitant, and pushes the cost of the least expensive Kindle (which, again, is not $69 here in Australia) far above the cost of the ereader that I purchased, when a case is included.

The least expensive Kindle would have come to $148, when including the case; this Kindle does not have a touch screen, and seems to be severely lacking in features. The Kindle that I was considering was the Paperwhite, which would have been even more, coming to approximately $220 with a case.

The older-generation Sony ereaders would have come to over $150 when including a case. The newest generation of Sony ereader was the cheapest of all of them, given that the case was included. Furthermore, it ultimately came to a difference of exactly one dollar when compared to the rather feature-deficient Kindle which you're suggesting that I should have purchased instead.

Finally, you are incorrectly using the word "irony". To quote my mother, if you don't have anything nice to say, please don't bother saying anything at all.

If only I HAD said something not nice.
I only saw the irony of your post, being a student myself and being on a budget myself.
Also, Australia is not exactly backwaters of the world and just using google for 2 min I found 2 sites in Australia that sell that kindle model for 84AUD or 75$. So 6 $ more? Oh the tragedy.
However, you said you don't like that model, and that is fine.

"The least expensive Kindle would have come to $148, when including the case;"

Nope. Kindle 4 is 98$ from authorized dealers. 148-98 is 50. You don't have to buy 50$ case I own a kindle keyboard and I have a cheep fake leather 10$ case. Served me for 2.5 years just fine and I carried that kindle everywhere with me in my backpack, usually stuffed between giant tomes. Also, as I said non authorized sellers sell it for 84$. You not liking that model is fine, but don't put misinformation here.
You can buy new paperwhite 2013 from authorized dealers for $178. You can find it around 150 AUD from other sellers in Australia.
But you said you don't like to shop online, so my guess is you haven't really googled enough to get all the information and the cheapest prices.

Also, no offence to your mother or any other people who subscribe to that saying, but that one is basically a hippy, hand holding, flower smelling, let all pretend we're nice and think/say only happy thoughts. People don't work in that way. Not to mention that upholding that saying, would render any critique possible.

The "$69 Kindle" is the advertising-supported model. That model is not sold outside the US.

My mistake on that one Harry. I didn't know from where OP is. However kindle 4 is 75 USA dollars in Australia from Australian sellers. 6$ more

I started out reading both paper and e-books when I got my first e-reader. Eventually I became accustomed to reading on an e-reader and now prefer that. Of course I have Wi-Fi and access to a large library network with a lot of e-books.

Unlike some I think the T3 is well worth the money and the nicest reader I own. My mother still loves her kindle keyboard, but I don't and I far prefer the T3 to the Aura HD. I paid $379 CAD for my first Sony and just gave it away last year. For me it was worth every penny as it was almost impossible to buy books where I lived in the summer.

I am pretty darn sure you will enjoy it and as others have said you can still read paper if you really want to.

Rosenivy, you made a good choice. Ignore anyone trying to antagonize you for whatever reason. I buy & sell online all the time. Heck I even bought my car online, I aged about 100 years for fear of losing $25,000 but that's another story! lol But just because you can find item xyz for $X doesn't mean the seller is trustworthy enough for you to hand over your cash.

Some on here happily advocate buying, using and returning it as a trial without any regard for the consequences of their actions in the long term.

You did what's right for you and that's what counts. Enjoy your reader. I know you're going to love it.

I'm already pretty surprised at how much I love it! I started Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series (again!) last night. It's just not the same as holding a book, and I did keep getting distracted by how nice the screen is, but these devices really are a treat to read on.

I showed my Kindle-owning friend the reader that I chose last night. She thinks I should have gotten a Kindle instead (she prefers Amazon over Sony as a company), and says she couldn't dream of having a touch screen ereader -- but I couldn't dream of not having one!

Congrats on your new reader Rosenivy! I think you made a great choice. I have a new Kindle PW2 and do most of my reading on that. But I also own older Sonys (the 650 and 350) and still love both of those. If Sony had decided to sell the T3 in the U.S., I might have been persuaded to buy that instead--although I do have to admit I like the lighted screen on the Kindle PW.

Even though I've had e-readers for a number of years and do quite a bit of reading on them, I still enjoy reading paper books as well--on average I would guess that I split my reading time about 50/50 between the two.

Enjoy your new toy!!
