I'm aware that it's not a desirable solution, but if you're down to one of two legacy applications it could be a viable temporary solution until native apps becomes available.

Hmm. ChromeOS running Linux running VirtualBox running Windows running OverDrive Media Console.

I may copy my XP VM over again and give it a shot this weekend.

Madness!

Bear in mind that the monkey would need the audio to work.

Hence why I wondered about a virtual machine directly under Chrome. I'm sure there are lots of Windows users that are dependent on one or two apps that aren't available, but the rest is. In my case it is about 30 Word macros that I can't replicate in Chrome.

I think this thread and many others showing a growing interest in Chrome OS, Chromebooks, Google Apps and the like indicates that we need a forum or subforum for all these things.

We have a Kindle forum, an Apple, an Android so what not a Google or Chrome Forum?

I'll second that. I'm very interested in moving my things port, but I also want to use my different peripherals, scanner, tablet, printer and so on. But must of all I'm still dependent on some Windows applications that aren't quite there yet under ChromeOS.

Have you tried finding an app for it yet?

The file is a PDF; you should be able to move it from the file manager, like any other files. Just download it, and if Chrome wont let you, right-click to save-as.

No. That statement is a generic "file not supported" one. Since this pops up frequently, I have my doubts as to whether such an app exists. It may, but reading open epubs and pdfs is something I don't do. I only read Kindle books from the library. As such, finding a solution for this problem is extremely low on my list of priorities.

"Save as" does not exist in the right click menu.

Not that I have any proof or even inside knowledge, but I wuuld be very surprised if we don't see Android and Chrome apps merging somewhere in the future.

Then your analysis isn't a very good one, is it? (not that it has to be, except in the spirit of scientific inquiry.)

What about Google Books?

I'll get to them eventually...

Reading in the browser is supported. Downloading requires Adobe. Our friend, DRM, is hard at work protecting our interests.

I haven't explored other options yet.

My initial inquiries will be of a go/ no-go nature. Once I get everything mapped out, I'll start dealing with workarounds. And like I said before, formats I don't do will go to the bottom of the list. It's easier to deal with formats I already do, because it requires less work on my part. Once I get those out of the way, I'll start going down the list.

Android would be a godsend, since it supports OverDrive and Adobe.

If you're talking about flipping your ebook reading from the Chromebook to the big screen, then adding a Chromecast dongle would be the solution.

If you're talking about mirroring the screen of your phone on your Chromebook, then I think Air Droid can do that for Android, though probably not fast enough for games or video.
