I have had the chance to toy with the Nexus 7 and while it is a pretty good e-reader for the price it's nothing close to the HDX in overall performance. I have not done reading on the Nexus so maybe the reading experience is better but the HDX is superior in graphics, screen, processor...ect.
Believe it or not most people are not having an issue with some blue border thing and the HDX is the better overall tablet. It may not be the best tablet for everyone's purposes but if you look at overall performance it is a better tablet.
You need to read my threads here to see why I feel this way. No one but me and Simaru was even interested in the HDX. I tried to put some motivation in the forum. I was so super excited about the tablet but no one else was remotely interested in it. I was crushed when my first unit failed.

You would be surprise how many people do have an issue with the Blue border. It's all over the Amazon Kindle forums and reviews of the HDX.

I'm not saying the N.7.2 is superior is hardware or display but yes it wins in text rendering and yes it wins in having a clear display. The HD Kindle Fire I own which also has the same O/S on it I love it to pieces. I owned 3 HDXs and this forum is a place where people come to find out the truth about devices. So yes I am going to give my opinion on the subject.
I have the HD and HDX sitting side by side right now watching the same movie and there is a difference between the two, the HDX screen looks noticeably better. I see no noticeable difference in text rendering between the two.

Please read my first thread here and you can understand this is not a HATE campaign but I just want users to be very aware of a real issue. People on this forum known me and how sincere I am that I will tell them like it's suppose to be and wont sugar coat it.

I've known Barty for awhile so I am going to be honest to him. I know he is a reader and how he feels about text rendering.

Be sure to note which Fire HD you are comparing, the 2012 edition or the 2013 edition.

There isn't too much difference in text rendering. I would say the HDX is alot better less pixelly. More crisp and clear but the blue border ruins the reading experience unless you read on black background and your unit doesn't show the blue border on everything like my HDX 3 did.

The text rendering is the most important thing on a Kindle. It's for reading after all.

Of the 1400+ reviews there are less than 100 that notice any issue with the blue border. IMO, this is mixture of maybe a small number of devices (compared to the whole) may have a slightly more prominent border and some people being easily distracted by things that most others are not.

I understand that you are bothered by the blue border but the fact still remains most people do not even seen an issue with it or even notice that there is one there. So, my point is that you try your best to drive the HDX down, spew false info like the HD screen is better than the HDX scree and take pot shots at the HDX every time you get a chance. OTOH, trumpet the Nexus 7 and HD as better devices.

I know you were disappointed with the blue border but for 90% of people there is either no problem or they don't notice it. It would be one thing if the device doesn't appeal to you because of the border and you stated so, but you've gone on what amounts to a campaign against it. Not only that but Amazon lists on the product page that some people might notice a blue border on it, so it is not a matter of people not being told about it anymore.

See that is where you are completely wrong. It's a tablet, not a dedicated reading device. For you it might be primarily a reading device but that's not how it was designed.

I use the HDX 2013 with white text on a black background. There is no blue border at all that way. Some folks may not be able to use it that way for a variety of reasons.

I also use it for lots of apps and to play my music while reading. It has far less glare than the HD 2012. I've never seen the HD 2013 so cannot comment on it.

I only use the PW 2013 for reading in a bright room or with sunlight coming through a window. It has NO glare at all.

I believe the HDX 2013 is cheaper than the iPad mini and has the advantage over the Nexus 7 with its Mayday feature and the ability to play my Amazon songs from the Cloud and from the Device. So far as I know, no tablet or even a PC has this Mayday feature. Even with PC's one must call customer support and then they can take over one's PC. Mayday connects to a real person in seconds with a video and they can move lines on the HDX and take it over.

Now wait one minute I have never said the HD has better screen than the HDX?!? This place is called MobileRead for reason people come here want the best reading experience the other stuff like movies and games isn't important and in reading experience the Nexus 7 wins because of text rending and the HDs wins because of the blue border ruins the reading on the HDX. You may not use Sepia but I know from being here years and when the first Kindle Fire came out most people here do use that theme and the blue border really shows up on that theme and if you get one like my HDX 3 it shows up on everything.

Just because not many people notice the border it's still a issue that is very real on some units and people need to be made aware of it and that's what these forums are for. If you go look into the Kindle forum you will see many talking about the Paperwhite it's color blobs and pinhole issues. That's what this place is here for to talk about these things.

The forum people here are my friends and I don't want them to make uniformed decision and wind up with a headache. I care about these people so yes I am going to continue to post my experience.

The HD2 has about the same glare as the HD 2012 and the HDX's glare is less it has a different glass on it I think.

The HD makes a great mirror though!

Some of us enjoy reading on tablets, and have moved away from e-ink ereaders because the reading experience is so good on tablets such as the Nexus 7. I personally read on the Nexus 7, the Nook HD, and occasionally on the 2012 Fire HD. I seldom (as in, almost never) watch movies or videos on my tablets. Mine are for reading, and news apps, and music. So to me, (and to the other readers here at mobileREAD) we want to know the reading experience on tablets, and if there is something bad, we WANT to know.

That doesn't indicate hatred of a device on the part of anyone who says a tablet is not good to read on. It is a shared user experience and I, for one, as a gadget junkie, want to know. The blue border may not bother some people, but I know from my own experience, if there is only ONE thing about a device that bothers ME, it ruins the experience for me, and is enough to make me get rid of it. (Case in point..the latest update on the Paperwhite 2 ruined it for me. It has been sent back. Many people will choose to live with it. But that ONE thing was enough to ruin it for me).

So I want to know when people like a device, and when they don't. For me, the reading experience is the most important thing about a device. I personally don't want a blue border around the edges of my pages. I like a nice, clean smooth white or off white page. No funky colors, no textures. So I am extremely appreciative of Blossom's experiences with the THREE HDX's that she had, and I am thankful that she lets everyone here be aware of what SHE experienced. (My credit card thanks her, too).

That may be true but here at this forum it's all about the Reading experience. There are plenty generic tablet forums for other stuff. The movies and games are not important to the regulars here they want good text to read on. They want the best Reading Experience they can have and that is what we talk about here is ebooks and reading and occasionally music. Movies and games are seldom mention unless there is a good deal on them.

We are all about reading here and so when you see me recommending something it's about the reading experience everything else is secondary.
