A dear friend bought me a Nook STR Glowlight for Christmas (last gen, thank goodness, so I've got the sd slot), and it arrived today. I love it! At first I thought it would break my habit of keeping so many books on my reader, due to not being able to manage the shelves with calibre.

Then I got the brilliant idea to use a custom column and a plugboard to add a shelf prefix to the titles, in parentheses so they would sort before the Nook library items.

I was able to put 160 books on 9 shelves in less than three minutes. With a little regex magic I could derive the prefix from my existing genre column instead, but that can wait. I think the 160 books I've got will hold me for a bit.

Calibre is an enabler.

So since I ordered the Kindle Fire HD, it was made the default device on my Amazon account, and any books I get through Amazon are automatically sent to the Fire HD and not to my Touch. Grrrrr.

Obviously I intend to deregister the Fire HD before Christmas. Can anyone here verify that will remove all my books from the device? I really would not want my husband to power on his brand new Kindle only to discover it already belongs to me.

According to Amazon's Kindle Forums, it's not supposed to do that:

The Fire uses the Android reading app and is considered an app for default device purposes. Therefore, you will not be able to make your Fire the default device if you have other actual Kindle devices.

Go to http://amazon.com/manageyourkindle and then Manage Your Devices to change the name.

Tip - You can put a character in front of the name like _ or a period and that will work.
You could try renaming your Kindles so the Touch is the first one in the list, though...

There is no default device for Kindles. Just go to your MYK page and rename your Kindle to show first if you don't want to select it from the drop down box each time OR You can deregister his KF in MYK page under devices. Next time you order a Kindle for someone if you choose it's a gift it wont register it to your account.

Who ever posted that about the Kindle Fire had no clue on what they were saying.

Any device you can send books to can be rename and there is no default device just a list of Kindles alphabetically. I have my Nexus 7 which uses the Kindle App listed first on mine I am use to hitting the drop down and picking my other Kindles though.

I tried deregistering, but unfortunately the browser on my tablet can't quite handle that. The browser on my PC is out of commission due to said PC having a massive hard drive failure. Reinstall commencing as we speak.

Once I've got my PC back up and running I'll deregister the Fire HD from my account
