I never heard of it until I saw it in RadioShack's BF ad. I've considered getting a no-contract phone in the past for use as an MP3 player, but the specs were generally pretty bad, so I'd pass on it. Then I saw this phone and the specs were actually good and the price was right; so I got one. It's a Virgin Mobile phone and I'll never activate it.

For my intended use - streaming MP3 player - it's a great value. The only major fault is the onboard storage of 4GB (1.9GB of user available). Not much room for apps, since Android 4.1 won't allow app transfer to an SD card. After downloading my essential audio, music, and book related apps, I'm down to 0.7GB. This isn't a deal breaker, but 8GB would've been better. On the major plus side, it'll take 64GB mSD cards; so I ordered two. Plenty of room for my music and audiobooks.

Overall, I'm quite pleased with this "MP3 player".

If you already have the Nexus 4, why another Android non-contract cell? Is the Ring smaller?
I was thinking about getting an non-contract Nokia Win phone in the hopes that library WMAs would be easier to download, but I am not even sure that would be the case.

The main reason I chose not to get an S3 (which is known for being less fussy than the S4) was because I knew I couldn't live with its screen resolution for the next two or three years.

The voice and motion implementation on the S4 isn't terribly important to me (though I'm amazed by the relative accuracy of dictation in a quiet place), but some of the other added features have been invaluable.

Pity the Note 3 sounds so much better as a standalone music player; it also plays high-resolution FLAC files. Sadly, I find it necessary to use a DAC with the S4.

The Ring is smaller, but the 64GB card slot is the main reason I got it. I only have a bit over 8GB of free space left on my Nexus, while the Ring gives me 59GB for content.

I have no idea if OverDrive WMAs would work on a Windows phone.

If only they had the STwGL for around $50. That was the upgrade I wanted sneak into my grillfiend's possession without her knowing.

Instead of wrapping it as a present, I could have transferred all of her books and bookmarks to it and placed it in the cover she has already, then calmly reached over to switch on the light during some moment when she happened to be reading on Xmas!
