Getting mp3 audiobook to ipad via Dropbox

Hi,

I have a mp3 audiobook (about 60 files) on my PC, and I'd like to listen to it on my ipad. I don't want to use iTunes to sync, because that has wiped out my ipad in the past ( please don't tell me to try again, as I am in the fool me twice shame on me stage).

I use Dropbox and love it. So I am looking to get an ipad audiobook app that could get my mp3 from my Dropbox and play it. Is there an app like that?

Getting mp3 audiobook to ipad via Dropbox

FileBrowser app will let you browse Dropbox and even shared folders on your computers, but it does not remember the play position for audiobooks, which is annoying.

You may be able to transfer the files to the iPad using IFunBox on your computer, but I have not done it this way so don't know how well it works.

Edit: this came up in an App Store search.

I use downloads-free app to open zipped mp3 folders from dropbox, so you can use it for mp3 audiobooks too or probably any other mp3 player.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/down...ee/id475190096

Just checked and saw that on my iPad m4b audiobooks (in dropbox) can be opened with OPlayerHD Lite and Documents by Readdle.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/opla...eo/id385896088
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/docu...ee/id364901807

I can also use oplayerhd-lite to read ogg audiobooks and to transfer them directly from my PC/notebook over my WiFi router using browser or ftp, because for some reason dropbox didn't offer oplayerhd-lite as player to open ogg files in, as with m4b audiobooks.

There are a couple of applications in the app store which will convert your mp3files to an audiobook file which will be bookmarkable and which will retain chapters etc if you don't choose to join all the parts together. I do that, rather than leave them in iTunes and having to create playlists. The converted book goes into the audiobook section of a) iTunes and b) your device. You don't have to sync via iTunes but in the case of the converted file, it recognises it for what it is (audiobook, not music) and places it in the right place.

I use Audiobook Builder, which is a paid app, but subsequent to that another *very* similar app was released for free. Its called Audiobook Binder. I don't know if its still free, for me it just shows "install" rather than free/price I can't seem to right click to get links in the app store... don't know why, but those are the two I recommend.

This looks like a great app. Thanks for pointing it out. I've been using "Open in" from the Dropbox app to load audiobook mp3s into Downcast, since Downcast is great for saving play positions, changing playback speeds, etc. This looks like an even better solution, since it integrates with so many cloud storage providers including Dropbox.

That would certainly be an error in thinking. There are many more iOS devices sold than macs and they can't just be mac users buy multiple iOS devices. I do not own a mac for example but I do own an iPad.

My browser didn't pick up the spinning eyes. It is best to grab them from the MobileRead smilies by clicking when you can.

Downcast app (is the answer)

Downcast app (free, usually for podcasts)

Open app
More > Import Media Files > Storage Providers > Dropbox > [Audiobook file]

It will add it to a new 'podcast' that you can rename.

It controls the speed, remembers your position, and is overall a great app.

Hope that helps.
