If the ship's heading home port is ahead. If it's leaving then it's astern. (And it's fine to drink port aboard the ship as long as you're not the helmsman or navigator. And probably not the captain either although I've seen many captains that were better off when drunk-at least then the crew knew not to pay any attention to them.)

I have a Micro USB with the symbol and a B in a square on one side. UP on devices with an obvious front. On the Back side U[sub]L[/sub] and other markings.
Forget the 'Braille' method (I wear XL gloves) on those.

I don't think it is asking a lot to make an easy/non-confusing tactile mark.

It's tiresome to have to make three attempts to plug my micro-USB-to-mini-USB cable from my smartphone into my DAC.

I can't wait for the new standard so that I can make three attempts to use my Type-C adapter to plug my micro-USB-to-mini-USB cable from my next smartphone into my DAC.

Wireless. That's the best solution. Don't know what DAC you use but some are wireless.

Do you KNOW how hard it was to find a 3m USB A-A cable anywhere (at least, 5-6 years ago)?

I was kidding, Calvin! Perhaps reading the XKCD strip quoted a few posts ago left me sounding a Hank too deadpan.

I'm with you on the wireless solution to some extent: I charge my Android devices wirelessly while using the USB ports exclusively for digital audio.

So far, I haven't heard a bluetooth DAC that could compete with the wired kind, but I do expect wireless 24/192 to become a practical reality one of these years.

Just a standard Qi charger, really (i.e., the device you've just mentioned) -- the main purpose being to dedicate the USB port of my devices to music. (Another application might be to travel with a really inexpensive Qi charger and keep your more expensive devices in sealed plastic bags along with your clothes -- especially if you stay in seedy urban hotels!)

While I've never read that particular book, I used to have a literate girlfriend who swore by it. She also worked as an escort briefly before I knew her, so I like to think she discovered The Girl, the Gold Watch &tc. in some sordid scenario, perhaps involving a special reading room for mercenary cigar aficionados.

It used to be the case that cords you plugged in multiple times a day were reversible, while cords that you were expected to leave plugged in often weren't.

Headphone jacks (1/4" or 3.5 mm) work like this, as do the once-ubiquitous round tip AC adapters. VGA cables, HDMI cables, ethernet cables, serial cables, etc. all required a specific orientation...but that didn't matter because you were mostly going to leave things plugged in. This was the original idea with USB, too - you'd use it for things like mice and keyboards and hard drives and printers, plus the occasional camera...but very few people would be plugging their cameras in 20 times a day. And certainly no one considered that you would be doing this in the dark.

But of course the use case is very different now, so I'm glad that they are going back to the old standard of "frequent use=reversible".
