Is Amazon the only force capable of ending government domination of our personal lives?

Amazon earned it's market share for ebook sales. Others had ebook readers first but Amazon had the first large intergrated system of ebook store and device custom made to make searching and buying easy. They also take customer service seriously. That contact me button they had where you got a phone call in about 10 seconds was amazing as was their return policy. On one of their forums I made a complaint about a Fire I bought. The next day I got a phone call from them and they told me how to fix the problem. How many businesses would do that? In many businesses it's hard to even find the contact information and then work your way through a phone tree to talk to a live person. Assuming there even is a live contact person.

You say that as if screaming somehow makes your opinion a fact. As the issue of the role of government in the economy and regulation is, to a considerable extent, based on opinion (as to what should be the desired outcome), acting like it is otherwise is foolish.

It has been shown in trial that Amazon has NOT broken any laws, unlike Apple with its collusion with publishers to take over ebook pricing. They are the leader for the simple fact that they give us the customers what we want at prices we are willing to pay.
When someone else comes in and delivers the same with excellent customer service Amazon will start to lose its dominance. Until then there is no need for govt interference. |

![]() In the recent 60 minutes interview, Bezos made it clear he expects Amazon to be disrupted and displaced at some point. Just not soon. (As in, "not while I'm alive".) |

The biggest problem with Amazon's dominance of the eBook market is that they can control... everything basically. Pricing, terms with creators, availability of material, everything. Most of my sales are through the Kindle store. If suddenly Amazon decided they didn't want indie authors anymore, or they didn't want to list fiction, I'd be up a creek without paddle. As much as I appreciate Amazon, I would like B&N, Kobo or anyone else to provide as good a platform for selling and buying books.

But how is it Amazon's fault that they've been blessed with inept opponents? When it comes to indie publishers, who else relies on them as much as Amazon? Who supports them as strongly and creatively? Without going too far: http://www.theguardian.com/books/201...die-publishers Quote:

xanthe kindly pointed out a special on Amazon.com for 14.99 but the shipping was $67. Amazon.ca base price was $47 but included free shipping. I was able to buy it at Staples for $19.99 I buy occasionally from Amazon.com when that is the only place I can get something. I do expect to pay double the American price though. Helen |
