This is my first post from my new Chromebook.
Does it look different from my previous Windows posts? ![]() |

Right, back to my day's work as an IT project manager running projects currently in the UK, Australia and the US, all five hours of which I have so far today done entirely on ChromeOS. That has included updating the project plan in Gantter, editing notes and working on issues and task lists in Google Docs and Workflowy, while referring to Office documents in the ChromeOS viewers, editing images, uploading them and updating a website's code, listening to music while I work, and of course emails, calendar updates and meeting requests. The processor has been more than capable of handling all that smoothly and responsively. Chromebooks come in various shapes and sizes, including some with large hard drives, and all can be extended with SD cards or via USB, but of course they don't deserve the tag 'limited storage' because the intention is that you hold their data in the cloud. I've used about 1 GB of storage on my Samsung Chromebook since buying it back in February, and all that's on it is temporary and could be wiped if I bother to do it. The main problems with connectivity to peripherals come with things like older scanners that don't have cloud access and direct network access to shared drives (I can access them but have to go through the local web interface). Other peripherals like webcams, headsets, keyboards, USB drives and mice work as well as, and occasionally better than, on Windows. Whenever I plug my webcam, headset or USB key into my Windows desktop it insists on loading drivers (which takes ages for the Logitech webcam). When I plug them into my Chromebox they start working immediately. Graham |

Alt-Up and Alt-Down for Page Up and Page Down. Ctrl-Alt-Up and Ctrl-Alt-Down for Home and End. Or: Search with backspace, left, right, up, down for Delete, Home, End, Page Up, Page Down. It's space saving on the smaller keyboards. If you plug a full size keyboard in the relevant keys work. The most useful shortcut is the one that gives you all the others: Ctrl-Alt-/ Graham Last edited by Graham; 12-03-2013 at 11:14 AM. |

xset m 5300 You only need to do this when you reboot from cold, and the previous keystrokes are remembered, so once you've typed it once you can get it back with an up arrow, but it does make things snappier. I've raised a Feedback report about this, and hopefully as more ChromeOS devices get used with big monitors Google will widen the mouse speed range. (Incidentally, being able to send feedback to Google, with a screenshot, via Settings > Report an issue or Alt-Shift-I is another lovely thing about ChromeOS.) Graham |

The C720 is a nice machine. Really thin, nice looks, fast; but, it needs an IPS display. That's its major weakness. Makes watching videos while lying down a bit awkward.
Alright - 3 keys for the speakers? and not one for delete? pitiful! ![]() Looking forward to the Chromebox Asus is supposedly working on. That's what I really want - a 4GB Haswell Chromebox. Until then, I'm turning my C720 into one. |

Another design flaw - the SD card doesn't seat all the way in and sticks half-way out. What's with that? If it's going to stick out, may as well use a USB flash drive. It's cheaper.
