Download 2080
What does this mean when I try to log into nook for PC to read books that I have already purchased? I get the Download 2080. I have purchased these books (about 22) a few years ago and Barnes and Noble is not letting me access them. Should I get out of the ereading BS now or is there a quick fix? I dont like buying from BN anymore for personal reasons. Do they want me to update my credit card so I can read ebooks I have already purchased???!!!??!?! I think BN is on the downward spiral if this is the case.

I don't know that error message, but if your credit card has expired, B&N will require you to update it to re-download any of their ebooks that have DRM.
B&N uses a form of "social DRM" that includes your name and credit card number as part of the encryption. |

My nook account no longer requires a credit card to download books I have purchased. Don't know when they changed this rule. Try calling them or do a live chat to get your problem fixed. I had to do this when my old account went wonky and I had to transfer my ebooks to a new account. It took three calls tho till I got a receptive and helpful tech.

It is of course entirely possible, if you purchased these books "a few years ago", that they are no longer available. It's your responsibility to keep copies of the books you've bought; there's no guarantee that the bookstore will do so.

While I agree in backups in general and that's always been the thing to do with eBooks in the past with places like Fictionwise or Books on Board IMO B&N, Amazon & Kobo, while they may not outright say it, are implying that your books will be available from their cloud at all times. They, along with other cloud based services (comics, movies, music, etc.), almost encourage folks in the fact that they don't need to worry about backups and that their stuff will be available to re-download wherever they want it (& in many cases actually making backups requires one to do things that may not be legal). I'm not saying don't back up by any means, everyone absolutely should, but folks who are newer to the ebook game aren't necessarily thinking they need to have backups since the providers heavily imply they'll keep a copy for them.

You're probably just having connectivity problems. Log out of the app and back in a few times, than call B&N support if there's still a problem.
