I suspect companies are fulfilling online orders from their retail locations. How else can they run out of inventory when the stores aren't even open. However, they may hold back inventory for in-store customers that don't appear on their website.

I'm sure they allocate a certain amount for online sales. Once sold, the online deals are gone. Then it's time to stand in line at the stores.

However... because of earlier opening times, stores are now having several blocks of doorbuster deals in order to give traditional shoppers a chance at the hot deals. It wouldn't surprise me if they split online sales into several blocks also.

Bottom line - don't give up on the online deals. Something just might drop later on. After all, Black Friday isn't over with until Saturday night.

Just bought the K4 ereader from Bestbuy. Glad to pick up a spare ereader with buttons, but I don't understand why Amazon didn't do this as well. I'd rather buy it from A [and get triple points on my visa], but hey, I got it :-)

Actually wondering about going back and getting another one as a spare, spare :-D

Which one did you get - the silver 2011 model or the black 2012 model? Best Buy sells both versions and for the same price. With Amazon's brilliant naming scheme, it's easy to get them mixed up.

I went to Staples (wanted to get a new GPS for my mum). It was more crowded than I have ever seen it, but they were very well organized. Handed out tickets for the first page sale items so people didn't have to wait in the cold. Then everyone stood in the same line. They only have three registers, so that was the longest part.

Somewhat fun, but it made me remember why I prefer to shop online nowadays

Hope you get the one you want. I have the silver one and would prefer the black one, but it's not worth junking a perfectly functioning ereader for a few improvements. Of course if I were starting from scratch, I'd go with the black one.

My money is flowing too. So far (code for I'm not done yet), I have five tablets, a cheap no contract Android phone, and a handful of 32GB USB flash drives. Still looking for a few computers, portable hard drives, and whatever else catches my eye.
